Problem Description:I replaced the clutch in my 2004 STI with a after market Sakari Motorsports stage 2 clutch over the weekend. We got the old clutch out and put the new clutch in and when I started my car, it makes a grinding sound coming from the starter, so we figured out that the Spider sprocket on the starter wasnt coming back in once it started the car (we figured it out because with the car running and turning the key like you were trying to start it again, that it didnt make the grinding noise like all cars do when you do that so thats how we knew it was stuck in the flywheel). So I tried to order a new starter but there was a delay and I had to be at work, so I took the starter out and pop started my car and it everything sounded great, no grind and ran fine. Finally, yesterday I got the new starter, put it in and the same grinding noise is there!? Any suggestions on what it could be!? Would there be anyway the after market pressure plate could be rubbing on the starter housing? I was thinking about putting a small locke washer between where I bolt the tranny and starter housing up to each other? I really don’t know, any suggestions would really help you guys…..i cant pick up loose women if i cant drive my car lol!
