So I starting doing my brakes tonight its about 12:20am right now and I have taken off all calipers on all 4 sides. Problem now is I can't seem to get the rotors off! Using a hammer to bang on it from the opposite side and its still not moving. I have tried all 4 sides and they seem to be rusted on. Now what??!!

I remember when my civic rotors were rusted on, even with a rubber mallet, I couldn't get them off
But I was putting on new rotors anyways, so I took the back end of an ax and swung at that mofo like it stole my bike, and it came off.

don't they have the two little threaded holes you can screw a bolt into so it will push out against the hub to seperate the rotor?

WD-40 can be used as a un-freeze solvent? Or you might have to make a small crack in the rust between the rotor for you to chisle at, and keep hammering away? My dad had this problem with his S-10 a while back, and thats how he did it, it just took a few hours:(.

^^^ Carl's idea sounds like it might help.

If you're desprate and really need to get these off tonight, consider this, I've done this before, but only when you have no other options. Put the calipers back on, put the wheels back on, but when tightening the nuts leave a little room for the rotors to move, but not soo much that the wheel will come off or cause damage to your studs or put you into danger. Than take the car to a open lot and do a few figure 8's back and forth a few times, the loading and unloading of the car's weight should hopefully in your case help losen these rotors off. You will want to avoid torching as you dont want to damage your wheel bearings. If the first time it does not work, try losening it a little more and instead of figure 8's try a rocking motion like a slalom. Keep it safe. Others may disagree, but its worked for me in the past, you can only hammer it soo many times.

    Goodluck!

last summer when I did my fronts (04 wrx) I hammered and hammered, and it didn't budge, finally got smart and threaded a bolt or 2 into those threaded holes... and 'pop!!' off it came. So yah, that's the way to go fo shizzle!

use a wire brush around the hub area, using the threaded hole works well!

Agreed, I had one stuck on the back of the forester and it popped right off with using the bolt method.

I take a 8ft 2x4, slide it from the other side of the car so it is up against the back side of the rotor...and hit the board a couple of times with a 3lb sledge. Hasnt failed me yet.

Problem! I got done resurfacing the front 2 rotors. But then ran into a problem doing the rear ones. FOr some reason I could not get them to stop vibrating. Because of the tool chatter they are pretty much done.

very common PIA problem with solid discs.. Ford 500's and Fusions etc do that all the time.. you need to cut slow and very small cuts at a time... also make sure you put vibration bands on the rotor...

bummer dude.. lesson for next time huh...

Yeah I tried a different hub and had the vibration bands on but it didn't work because I screwed up the first time already. But I just overnight shipped new ones so I can make it to rockfalls. Got a quote from subaru on rear rotors they were $350 Per ROTOR!! LOL No I did not order those.

    What did you order?

Racing brake has nice stuff for a good price. $147 for the rears.

They also have replacement rotor rings for various aftermarket brake kits.

FYI, the bolt used to remove brake rotors is a 8x1.25 It has a 12mm bolt head.

The use of a hammer to remove rotors you are planning on resurfacing is NOT RECOMMENDED. Now that you found that out the hard way, you have to pay to replace them.

And another FYI, Subaru doesn't recommend machining the rotors of an STi at all. I know they are expensive, but you have to pay to play! You can always buy aftermarket...
