Check out post #900 at the bottom and follow through about 10 posts... looks like a few people have started talking about it already

    ^^^^

Looks like you already noticed that. I would really look into the wiring and also the motor. See if you can find the VIN on the block and confirm the age... IDK where that is, maybe someone can chime in on that.

not to sound mean but really? pick this up instead for the price its way way way better than that car. car you should buy
you even posted that you wanted to come look at it, 5k is a damn good deal for these cars. and if i had the cash, i would have bought it already.

the price on the 2.5 seems pretty steep, for what it has i personally wouldn't buy it.

If this is your "first car" it might not be the best option. This looks like it would be a radical 2nd car for someone who already has a decent runner. Even if it runs nice today...who knows what has been done (or not done) to get it in the condition it is in today. It looks more like a cool "project". Probably not a good "first car. Don't get me wrong...I frickin' love it, but I don't know if I'd jump at $7000 for it.

Car is being sold by minnetonka imports. I can tell from the pictures because that's Truffle Hills Chocolates in the background. There is discussions about them on here if you search for it.

^^^its a turbo 2.2 motor with an unknown trans. You never know what the owner did to get it to where it is today. It LOOKS good, but if you bought it and blew the trans right away or if something in the motor wasn't done right you could have a "project" on your hands instead of a decent car. Its just always a risk with cars that are very heavily modified as that one is.

i don't know if very heavily modified would be the best way to put it. Its a car that has alot of variables that you just don't know.
    Who swapped the motor?
    why did they swap it?
how many miles on the motor? (since a 2.2T is from an older legacy)
    who did the wiring?
why is the price so high? (its not a wrx swap so i just can't justify the asking price)
there are a million more why's or who's

Yeah called him today and said that it runs great and it just got a new paint job and i'm sure we can talk him down on the price. Also its a dealer called minnetonka imports. Anyone know anything about them? And does anyone here know alot about 1999 subarus like where rust spots are most likely to happen etc. My brother is going to take a look at it tomorrow and then i'm going down Friday so if anyone knows anything please tell.

From what I've heard, MTKA Imports can be somewhat shady. I have no real experience with them, other than them giving me some absurd "JDM" part numbers and then being almost offended that I said I couldn't get them.

Eh, go look at the car, but be very very careful.

Just don't be conviced by the looks on the car... They lied to me when i bought a beater legacy from them. They conviced me that the oil gaskets had been fixed yet after driving the car less than 2 days i realized that it needed valve cover gaskets.

I also believe there will not be any warranty on that car once you buy it...

i would assume it would be the same as my 95, check both front fenders where the bumper meets the fender. and the rears above the wheel, almost straight above the tire. Also check under the mudflaps.
but if it has a new paint job they may have hid the rust, or did a good job on it hence the price. You can try knocking (don't bang on it, just lightly with your knuckle) on the areas that might have rust to check for bondo, it will make a different noise.

but again, check this thing over with a fine tooth comb, take it for a drive, bring it to a trusted mechanic. Do not believe what they tell you, since i could tell you up and down the "previous owner did this, or that or this" but have no way to actually prove it. Receipts would be your best friend, but ill guarantee they have been "misplaced".

Here's some good reading on Minnetonka/Racewind Imports. From what I've read in that thread, I'd say run away from this car. Unless things have changed since last fall, these guys have no idea how to work on Subarus.

No it isn't. Yes, you take a risk with every car out of warranty, but swapped cars are much more likely to run into problems/reliability issues. Especially if you don't know who did the work. Based on the seller's very poor reputation, I'd skip this one.

How is a dealer going to find issues on a car that was never sold in the US and cobbled together with parts not original to that vehicle? If it actually has an EJ22T, it is not OBD 2 anymore, and who knows if the check engine light even works for you to read the codes that may or may not be stored. Nor will the wiring be something a dealer can check for you.
