Ok, my beater car, a nissan 200sx 1.6 5 speed, was working fine the day before. I had it up fixing the brakes and now when i go to crank it, everything just dies - no cranking noise. I took the battery cables off for a few minutes then the electrical comes back. Go and try to start it again, everything dies. What's going on? Starter maybe?

Sounds like you need to clean the contacts on the battery.

Sounds like a battery issue, make sure your terminals are clean and try a different battery. The car will not crank without enough power. Give that a shot.

I haven't had a chance to see what the voltage was. I cleaned the terminals last night till they were shiny. I'm thinking it's a cable issue too. But I'll try everything before swapping the battery.

heat can cause those things to crack, and when the start cracking they heat up more, this also happened to my spec-v when the car is running and the cable is smoking you know it is heating up, it then has resistence and could be open in certain situations.

k, found out it is one of connectors that connect directly to the battery terminal. What I did was shave off the plastic until the wires show through and wrapped it around the screw that connected to the battery terminal, tightened the bolt and it worked. Thanks for all the help !!! Now the brakes are too soft while i was driving it around... fluids need to be bled maybe?
