I went to BP subaru to have my Gas smell check. Everything estimated at about $624(mnsubaru discount included). Parts alone is a little over $100. The labor is what kills($400+). Anybody willing to help me out here with Labor. Willing to pay you. Whats wrong with my car is gasoline leak from some gasket. They said something about intake gasket or something. I'll just buy the parts from the Dealer. Need someone experienced to help me replace. Can use my tools and my garage if you dont have some. Also got Garage heater. Please LMK who can help. Thanks
I thought this was a recall... Service bulletin: 09-36-03 Date: 04/01/03 Subject: Fuel Smell in Cold Weather Part Numbers: 17544AA134 Pipe complete (30 mm shorter that Old one) 807707140 Hose (30 mm longer than the Old one)Starting engine number: 673467 *edit* Didn't see that you mentioned gasket. Either way, this was the info I used when I smelled fuel.
That's affirmative. I need to look into this too, I'm getting high on the really cold days, and gasoline highs are no bueno.
ok. we can probably do it for you. just let us know which parts they are needing you to swap and. probably should almost be able to cut your labor in 1/2.
you better watch it, i will go on a rant in foreign language not limited to German... i doubt you would like it very much if i go ballistic in Gaelic. lol
you are correct. there is no way to get to both lines on the passenger side without takeing off the intake mani and turbo inlet. (well, maybe under the inlet IF the mani is off. I had the same problem, fuel smell. BTW- check the drivers side hose under the A/C, that one was easy to fix.
i get high from fumes as well but it goes away when as soon as i start driving....sure wakes ya up in the mornin tho....
yeah, kinda scary. Mine was leaking pretty good on the drivers side. I used a flexible long extension Phillips screw driver to get in there. I also used a long screw driver to rotate the clamps so i could get to them from the front of the motor. (Mine were so loose that they were easy to rotate.:eek4 took maybe 10-15 minutes for a complete fix If you need assistance I can look at them and see if they're an easy fix or something you need subaru to do.
if ya could that'd be sweet...you gonna be at chipotle saturday? we can talk more then if ya are....im pumped to see some of these cars
No, I'll be at eriks bike shop in EP. :emo: PM me if you need help. tonight is my only free night and I live in EP
i have this issue also, started leaking the second day it was -10. i really don't want to deal with it when its this cold, but i have no choice.
If you have warranty, NOW is the time to take care of it. The dealer has to 'recreate' the problem before they replace the stuff for free. Do it while it's cold, or get a loaner like I did when I had mine done.
The only way warranty will cover it is if your under 36k, or have SAS. AFAIK, it's not a power-train covered item. I did 2 of them today, and they aren't fun...but once you do a few, they get pretty easy. The bulletin has you replace the fuel pipe under the intake manifold, and the one (1) piece of fuel line where the pipe ends up shorter. When I did the one's on my car, I just purchased some high pressure (fuel injection) hose from NAPA and replaced the 3 chunks of it. Didn't need the pipe, and I didn't want to spend the money on it. No need to, as far as I was concerned. Since then, I have had no raw fuel smell, and no moist lines.
