New CLUTCH

    So I have a 2007 wrx sti all stock. How ever I would like to put in a new clutch. I asked the guy at the subaru dealership how much it would cost exactly and he came up with $1700. I'm just wondering what you guys suggest as to what type of clutch to get and where to go to get it replaced.

    I just did an Exedy OEM replacement in mine. Installed by RS Motors. They do great work and their contact info is in the vendor section on the site here.

    I had an entire motor swap done there, so i can't really tell you exactly what it cost. Call or pm them and they'll give you a quote! Unless you want something fancy, the Exedy OEM replacement clutch works just fine.

    I got a new clutch a month or two ago from Morrie's Minnetonka, they quote me i think 1600 some but it came in at about 1500. I would say go aftermarket and put in a better than OEM clutch.

    There is a subaru dealership that will give you a percentage off of parts and labor, not sure who it is off the top of my head....

    If you don't mind a drive... Rick at AllCar in Menomonie, WI will install anything you want and beats anyone's price. I think he charges around a grand for a clutch and flywheel resurface.

    Is your clutch in need of replacement? If you are stock, there isn't much need for more clamping power. The OEM clutch is an Exedy unit. And it is more than ample for a stock car up through a stage 2 at least.

    Mine is a stock clutch in need of replacement asap. Even though it's in my garage back home just sitting there, i'll need to replace it once i get back to Minnesota. I just wanna replace it with a better clutch then the stock one that was previously in there.

    That's the thing, "upgrading" is pointless money wasted if there isn't a need. Clutches aren't like catbacks and intakes. They are based on a torque load rating. If you aren't running more torque than stage 2, then there really isn't a benefit of any kind to "upgrading". Clutches are, in my opinion, a supporting mod. You upgrade them when the need arises. If you are currently at stock power, upgrading your clutch does nothing but wastes mod money. I would save your money and purchase a downpipe, uppipe and a tune. Even at stage 2, the OEM Exedy clutch is perfectly fine.
