hey guys. i got a quick question, well just a couple questions. i just swapped an NA EJ22 (thanks justin) into my 97 impreza. im using the 1.8 intake manifold and ecu. at 0 - 1/4 throttle everything seems fine, motor accelerates well (much better than the 1.8 haha) but anywhere past that it bogs and backfires. trouble code says the tps has low input, i already know that is bad, and i am picking one up tomorrow. but could that be my only problem? somebody told me my MAP sensor may be bad. how can i check it, and where is it located. also, on the 97 ej18 manifold, there is a sensor on the passenger side of the throttle body. it has a 1/4 inch diameter spring with a plastic plug that goes thru it. there are also 2 nipples for vaccum lines on it, and on the bottom of the unit the engine harness plugs into it. i had accidently broken that during the swap, what is the sensor and what is its significance? and finally, does anyone know where i can find a vaccum diagram for the 97 ej18? thanks alot guys -Tommy
the ej22 injectors on the 1.8L manifold. also, i checked the fuel pressure regulator, idk if that would make a difference, but its fine. oh, the EJ22 is off of a 96 L automatic, if it makes a difference
fixed it. all it took was a new TPS, a hard reset on my ECU, and some small adjustments to the TPS and now its running perfect. thx
well, i have my full power from about 3500 rpm to 6250 rpm (the ej18 ecu rev limiter) but from idle at 350 rpm (yes, its idling at three hundred and fifty revolutions per minute) to about 3500 rpm its still boggy and seldom backfires. I still havent been able to adjust the tps to the point of me getting full horsepower and torque, from idle to redline. i remember in my original ej18 i messed with the tps once, and it took 1 trial and error to get it adjusted right again. but im having a hell of a time re-adjusting it. could it be more than just the tps? modsuby thinks it could be the knock sensor crappin on itself and making the ecu change the timing (the ecu throws a trouble code for "knock sensor 1 or bank 1") all help is much appreciated thanks
could be the knock sensor. IIRC the old knock sensors are only good to about 4k rpms. after that the ECU runs super rich to ensure no knock.
i thought ej18s didnt have knock sensors, but they may have in the newer years, because i know yours was one of the last years for the ej18
yeah i had the 97 ej18, which had a few things different from others. like no EGR, smaller intake manifold. well it is about 3500 - 4000 rpm that i get all the torque. so do you think that could be the problem???
