Hey everyone, Im new to the forum. Im actually kind of an outsider as I technically dont live in MN nor do I own a Subaru. But as my little family and I will be moving from LA to Wayzata on Jan 4th and will be in need of a new car, I plan to soon be a genuine member of this community! I have a 5 month old little boy and have been married for 5 years. I was just offered an internship at the Polaris Industries Design studio, so Its a perfect opportunity for me to get back into a Subaru considering we will be in the winteryest part of the country at the winteryest time of the year! So if you or anyone you know has a Subaru they want to sell please let me know! Im pretty open, but obviously Im looking for a newer car (nothing older than '00) thats in good condition without a ton of miles on it, for about $8k, that I can fit an infant car seat into the back of. Ive mostly been looking at wagons, but a sedan could work too. No coups, sorry. I love them, but there just not practical for a family. Thanks everyone, and I look forward meeting more of you!
Welcome! once you get your subaru, a few of us, (me included) work the the subaru dealer that is down the street, we can help you out with lots of crap, but hopefully you wont need us!
welcome to the state and forum. after 25 posts the for sale thread opens up. there are cars that people have fs in that thread. good luck on car hunting. you'll have to come out to a few of the meets.
Welcome. I work in Wayzata; you'll like it there. I lived there for over 2 years and really enjoyed it. I also happen to have a 2007 WRX for sale. 55k miles (all highway - family all over the place) black in color, and only simple stage 2 power mods. PM me if interested. Also welcome.
Small world - I was just about to post an intro for myself when i saw yours. My girlfriend and I just moved to Minneapolis from Los Angeles this month ourselves! So far the cold is a nice change, but I'm waiting for the novelty to wear off. I'm also in the hunt for a Subie, snow tires help but FWD still kinda blows and I miss my RS terribly. Looking forward to getting to know you all.
welcome, there are a few RS for sale i believe. however, Tony has a very nice WRX for sale. Shibbs also has a nice car on the market.
Long Beach, born and (partially) raised. All my family is from the South Bay - they also now think that I am insane for moving. Then again, they don't know how fun it is to drive in the snow and go to meat raffles.:yumyum:
my brother thinks I'm nuts for living here. He lives in Huntington and works in Long Beach. He'll never visit during the winter. only the summer.
Thank you all for the warm welcome! I grew up in Riverside and Have been going to school In Pasadena for the past 3 years. I probably should have specified that Im really not looking to spend more than 8k, as much as I would love an '07 WRX. (original post has been edited) I had an '06 2.5i for about a year before the baby came and I loved it, but since I sold it ive been rockin' a '98 Integra sedan with flower power mesh wheels (you know the ones) Its gotten me around, but im so over it! Looking forward to meeting up with some of you guys once I get settled in! (Im wearing a T-shirt right now, might be the last time I say that for a while! lol)
Thanks for the warm welcomes, everybody. I was hoping to find a place to connect with fellow suby-heads up here, looks like I've definitely found it!
Found it!!!!! This is my car! http://minneapolis.craigslist.org/dak/ctd/1522917336.html I can only hope and pray it wil still be round by the time I get there! Just realized its been smoked in... Unfortunate. Thats a deal breaker!
Feel free to come out to some of the events and what not. Tuesday nights are always a good time. http://mnsubaru.com/forums/showthread.php?t=35184
Funny..I recently left MN and moved back to Riverside! (I'm originally from the I.E.) Best of luck to you and your family in MN..the members on this forum are super down to earth and will help you out with anything! Have fun with that awesome Subie snow drifting lol!
Saw that one, too. Looks like a solid deal - the smoking thing is unfortunate but not enough to completely scare me away. Think I'll try to take a look at it once the storm blows through.
Unless the previous owner was a pig ashing inside the car, and keeping an ashtray full of butts, you'll probably never even notice that it was smoked in.
If its being sold by dealer and somehow they can tell it was smoked in than it probably smells like death. Its one of the most disgusting smells I can imagine (no offense to any smokers out there), and definitely not something I want to put up with for any amount of time or try to cover up. Ill keep looking. There's bound to be a scooby out there just waiting for me. If not, Ill just rent. We will only be in MN for about 4 months unless I get offered a position on full time staff after my internship is completed.
Im not sure if I should feel sorry for you or not... Riverside's great, but unless you have a full size pickup with a 2 foot lift and a FSS or Skin Industries sticker on your window you dont really fit in! lol Just kidding. After spending a couple of days here in MN im finding that I really need to crank it down a notch. Living in LA has got me so tightly wound, I need to learn to relax a little bit. Still searching for a car though. Ive seen a couple of promising candidates but nothing that has really "spoken to me" yet. We have a rental until next tuesday, but after that I will be sol if I havent found a car yet! I hope I dont have to settle for a Honda or something!
Haha! You're so right about the "So Cal" trucks as I call em lol. And about the slower pace of MN, I had a hard time adjusting to that too lol. No one's trying to f*** with anyone haha.
You should have bought your car in CA. I just moved back to CA and the bottoms of cars here are so clean it makes me cry.
I would have, but it wasnt an option for me. Traveling inexperienced across the frozen country with a nursing wife and a 6 month old baby? Not my idea of a good time...
Thanks again for the warm welcome everyone. Weve been here for a week anow and we realy love it! Unfortunatley still havent found a car yet, but the criteria has changed quite a bit. We are now looking for a Impreza wagon, Legacy sedan or wagon, or Forester '05 or newer with less than 75k miles. Looking to spend around $10k. Ill post a WTB ad just to make it official. It may seem wierd that Im having such a hard time finding a car and im suddenly looking for a newer, more expensive car, but its all very political. You know, bank rules and such... the point is We need a car fast and we will be forced into buying some domestic crossover suv if we cant find a Subaru quick. Thanks everyone!
I feel your pain. I went through the same struggles... I wanted to buy a car for $6-$7000 but I had to bump it up to $12,000 to get financing... It wasn't ideal to pay that much, but I love the car! Hope this is legal, but Morries Minnetonka Subaru has a few that are near your criteria... http://www.morries.com/detail-2006-subaru-impreza_wagon-2_5_i_manual-5004736.html http://www.morries.com/detail-2006-subaru-forester-4dr_2_5_x_auto-4979275.html I bought my Subaru from them and they were a big help in the financing for my wife and I as recent college grads. Eugene helped me out and I would recommend checking them out.
Thanks man, unfortunately I think the paint on Impreza Outbacks is hideous (even though the hawkeyes are my favorite). Not a big fan of the '06-'08 Forester either. I went over to Morries to test drive a couple of cars the other day when I was still looking under $9k. They were nice enough when I was there, but when the salesman called me back to see if I was still interested I told him I wasnt. I began to explain why when he hung up on me... Thought that was a little unprofessional (not to mention rude, whatever happened to MN nice?) Doesnt mean I would never do business with them, but I will obviously be looking elsewhere before I go back there.
That is a bummer experience... Sorry to hear about it. I saw on CarSoup a few from Luther Auto as well. My wife's parents bought their last car from Luther and it went well for them. Good luck! As for MN nice... that movie Fargo has done it's best to ruin the world's perception of it. Not to say it's bad, in fact it's one of the best states I've lived in. (4 total) But it just makes everyone expect us to say "eh" and "don't cha' know?"
Funny, I never even saw Fargo. I guess I probably should as Im now living here. Ive always been a big fan of Grumpy Old Men though (I dont believe they use "eh" or "don't cha' know?" in that movie) Thanks for the advise!
Its official! Im now an official member of the community! I just picked up my '07 Legacy tonight. Its sweet! Ill be sure to post some pics when I get a chance! Thanks to everyone for your help in looking for a car and welcoming me to MN!
Awesome news! Glad to hear it. I'm hoping to get pictures posted up tomorrow as well of mine. I look forward to seeing your new legacy.
Here she is! 2007 Legacy 2.5i. 48k miles. Auto trans with sportshift. Moonroof, heated cloth seats. I dont know what brand of aftermarket wheels are on it, but they look good enough. Picked her up for $10,500. Just washed and waxed her last night.
Thanks! Not too bad huh? Its nice that we have underground heated parking witha washing station. I can keep the salt off the car!
Those are the best. My apartment building has one too. Makes it much easier to keep the car clean in the winter, just hose it off during the week and the weekend wash goes quick.
