new gasoline ratings?

OMFG! yes, of course I go to get gas today and see the same thing. I go and ask the person working there and they didnt even know, go to another one, in hopes it was a fluke, nogo, also 91.

guess i have wall of tvs tune me for 91octane aye!?

 

the gas station I was working at, had to change their 92 to 91 because of some additives in it

 

I'd like this list as well. I filled up with BP 92 oxygenated on Dale and 36 on Tuesday.

 

That bp has changed to 91non-oxy. I live right there and noticed it mid-fill. I was pissed! Now I go across the street to shell, cause I haven't figured out where to go in roseville now! So angry!

 

yeah, i checked 3 bp stations in bloomington, all 91. my gas light was on so i got 5 gallons till i find a new place to get gas or decide 91 the wave of the future lol

 

I think I'm just gonna start filling up with 110, since 92 non-oxy seems to be unavailable, and its almost as expensive as 110!!

 

The station I use labels thier pump 91+ octane, when asked they claim they have to label it that but it is actually 93-94 non-oxy.

 

so is it ok to fill up with 91 ??? i still havent noticed they had changed it

there's a thread like this over on mnscc - seems like most BP's have switched to 91 (whether or not the gas is the same and the labeling has just changed, I don't know)

Well there's a couple within about 5 or so miles from me but I'm so used to driving right down the road for gas.

No I'm doing calculations based on current injector headroom to see if I can run e85 in my car at my current boost levels, lol.

 

20-30% drop in gas mileage FTL though. Mine sucks enough the way it is.

 

yeah, it's called my laptop and a new fuel pump

But e85 costs about 15-20% less than premium. I'll gladly pay the marginal premium (based on cost/mile driven) for what is essentially race gas.

Regional variatons
Octane ratings can vary greatly from region to region. For example, the minimum octane rating available in much of the United States is 87 AKI and the highest is 93. In the Rocky Mountain (high altitude) states, 85 octane is the minimum octane and 91 is the maximum octane available in fuel. The reason for this is that in higher-altitude areas, a typical combustion engine draws in less air per cycle due to the reduced density of the atmosphere. This directly translates to reduced absolute compression in the cylinder, therefore deterring knock. It is safe to fill up a car that normally takes 87 AKI fuel at sea level with 85 AKI fuel in the mountains, but if carried back to sea level the fuel may cause damage to the engine. California octane ratings (AKI) - 87, 89, 91, 100 (select outlets)

In many parts of Europe, 95 RON (90-91 AKI) is the minimum available, with 98 being premium. In other countries, like Italy, "regular" leaded gasoline, when still available, is sometimes as low as 85 RON (with unleaded still generally around 95 and premium around 98.)

well, hell if i know... hate when things change and theres no one saying why (like a huge corp changing things).

 

i live in bp by noble prky and the mobile gs there still has 92oct..hoep it dont change

 

nice find. I was just gonna say that california has always been 91oct as far as i can remember. So i thought we were spoiled when i found 93oct.

 

i too saw this, luckily i still have shell's and a sunoco, and the BP that used to have 92 and non oxy 92 still has non oxy 92 (for now)

 

psh, i run 169 octane, 92 is for losers

 

For the stations that have changed, has the price dropped? I haven't even noticed.

whew at least its only just a couple of weeks. I found this Bp issue out the hard way today. Went to the edina one on vernon and voila 91oct, so i said oh well i'll go to my local one in robbinsdale (half way there my gas light turns on and boy was i worried)i get there and damn 91oct again. Eventually had to settle for holiday 92oct for now.
