So did gasoline rating standards change again recently? Or is it just my craptastic luck that the 2 stations I usually fill up at both changed from 93 octane (highway 96 and centerville - right off 35e and 96) and 92 non oxy (bp on county road B and dale) to 91 octane and 91 non oxy, respectively?
If its just me, any updates on gas stations that still sell 92 unleaded (non oxy or oxygenated) within 10 miles of roseville? The old list is pretty outdated.

I'd like this list as well. I filled up with BP 92 oxygenated on Dale and 36 on Tuesday.

That bp has changed to 91non-oxy. I live right there and noticed it mid-fill. I was pissed! Now I go across the street to shell, cause I haven't figured out where to go in roseville now! So angry!

I think I'm just gonna start filling up with 110, since 92 non-oxy seems to be unavailable, and its almost as expensive as 110!!

The station I use labels thier pump 91+ octane, when asked they claim they have to label it that but it is actually 93-94 non-oxy.

Hrm. Anyone know if the gas actually changed, or is it just regulations on labeling?

there's a thread like this over on mnscc - seems like most BP's have switched to 91 (whether or not the gas is the same and the labeling has just changed, I don't know)

that's the one. And like wrxecho said its definitely 91 non oxy now. I may start using the shell across the street. I'm pretty sure
that's 92. Otherwise its up the street to kath for race gas lol

Ever since I've been working in Rochester, when I fill up at BP, it is 91. Now I'm seeing it in the cities also! But I just got back from Iowa visiting family and filled up at BP with some 93oct.:yumyum: I don't know why they're not selling the 93 here...lame.

FYI...Brooklyn Park BP on Brooklyn Blvd. and Jolly lane is still selling 92 at the pumps, but it was $3.04/gallon!

20-30% drop in gas mileage FTL though. Mine sucks enough the way it is.

 I also have a Miata, hehehe.

But e85 costs about 15-20% less than premium. I'll gladly pay the marginal premium (based on cost/mile driven) for what is essentially race gas.

anyone legal and want to figure out what this all means?

    http://www.ftc.gov/os/adjpro/d9305/031029rspndapplisubadtest.pdf
something about bp and shell changing the numbers shell 87 to 86 and bp 92 to 91, i dunno.

interesting little tidbit i didnt know about concerning octane rating
    http://www.sportcompactcarweb.com/editors/technobabble/0201scc_techno/index.html

    this from wikopedia..

    Regional variatons
Octane ratings can vary greatly from region to region. For example, the minimum octane rating available in much of the United States is 87 AKI and the highest is 93. In the Rocky Mountain (high altitude) states, 85 octane is the minimum octane and 91 is the maximum octane available in fuel. The reason for this is that in higher-altitude areas, a typical combustion engine draws in less air per cycle due to the reduced density of the atmosphere. This directly translates to reduced absolute compression in the cylinder, therefore deterring knock. It is safe to fill up a car that normally takes 87 AKI fuel at sea level with 85 AKI fuel in the mountains, but if carried back to sea level the fuel may cause damage to the engine. In some east coast states, up to 94 AKI is available [2]. In parts of the Midwest (primarily Minnesota, Illinois and Missouri) ethanol based E-85 fuel with 105 AKI is available [3].

    California octane ratings (AKI) - 87, 89, 91, 100 (select outlets)

In many parts of Europe, 95 RON (90-91 AKI) is the minimum available, with 98 being premium. In other countries, like Italy, "regular" leaded gasoline, when still available, is sometimes as low as 85 RON (with unleaded still generally around 95 and premium around 98.)

well, hell if i know... hate when things change and theres no one saying why (like a huge corp changing things).

Spoke to the guy I know in at BP, so here is the scoop.

If there are any BP stations selling 92 right now they are mis-labled. The current fuel offered to us is 91.8 oct labeled at 91 due to the laws. BP has run out of 92.8 oct due to some issue. I asked him if it was the fire recently at a refinery, he did not know.

ETA on the fuel being changed back to 92.8 is a couple of weeks.

For the stations that have changed, has the price dropped? I haven't even noticed.

America should be reimbursed for the false advertising and the false product we have been purchasing

Well, when you look at the big picture, gas is very cheap. even at $4 a gallon, it is cheaper than buying water.

Well, then it is 91.8. If you are tuned that close to the line that if you drop 1 point your car will knock, good luck going outside the metro area.
