Yep yep.... Finally go some new stuff done of the car. Thanks to Nathan for all the time and help. Now what could I be doing that involves a 2"x4"? hmmm.... EDIT: Video in post # 22
there is a little more rumble... but it is surprisingly quiet.. although he still has his cat, and an STi system on it... I think a little more playing wiht various lengths and stuff may get the exhaust pulses a little less closer... I think it just happens that the length form right to length still gets the exhaust pulses exited/joining on similar timing... hence it isnt as rumbly as I thought it would be... oh well.. maybe we can build another later Martin... need a car for a jig... ha ha ha
Hey martin.. I got myself thinking.... I may have a better idea... how to make it a bit better... let me think a little more and maybe we can build another set....
There is some more rumble to it. it sounds pleasently deep at normal driving levels. lower rpms maybe around 2k-3k rpms under say 1/2 -3/4 throttle and some decent load it gets nice and rumbly. at 100% throttle and higher rpms it sounds normal. I am not sure how much that cat is restricting the sounds becuase when i was running that 3" catback it was insanely loud with that 1 cat in there (which is most likely melted). I think the STi muffler/resonator is reducing the sound levels. It has a very low sound to it at idle low enough where you can barely hear the pulsing. I might try disconnecting the cat back and seeing how it sounds (pulse wise). one cool feautre which i found out yesterday is that i can easily reach the oil filter for a change and not have to worry about splashing oil all over the headers. Also this piiping cools down way faster than the oem stuff. A video might be tricky to work up due to the fact that it sounds best under load, and not the greatest in nuetral. Nathan clue me in to what you are thinking about...
making the left bank longer and joining them in a v (better) and then cutting it off and finishing wiht another peice... anyways.. see how this one goes.. we can play later...ha ha ha
I thought I had a pic of fuji's, but this is a different pic I found on nasioc a while ago. Similar to the borlas, it looks like the two banks are joined as far back as possible. Maybe that's making a difference.
i dont think where the join is neccesarly the biggest issue but the difference in the lenght of pipe that must be traversed. so by lengthening/sortening one or both lenghts of pipe (right side, left side) will have an effect on the pulse pattern.
zee headders! http://www.rs25.com/forums/showpost.php?p=511592&postcount=6 it not sound like this? http://media.putfile.com/MVI_1395/original
yeha I think that the length instead of opposing the pulses form left to right banks, it only slightly seperated them, so they are somewhere in between a tuned length and a non-tuned length... ie a little rumble but not as much as it could be...
I might try disconnecting the catback. that will make everything louder and i should be able to hear more distinct pusling.
