Hey guys i picked up a 97 impreza L now and having a few issues with it.

    1. My rev is limited to 4250-4500 insteada redline. once it reaches that, it sounds like its at redline and goes no further.

    2. Some times the car struggles to start, im thinking maybe fuel pump or fuel related. any help on how to diagnose it? its hard to repeat this problem cause sometimes it happens, sometimes it doesnt, whether engine is warm or not..

Any Help is greatly appreciated. Thanks

Could be a short in the wiring maybe?
that bulb being out will cause the blinker to flash rapidly

Yeah im pretty sure.. even double checked.. So where do i start for the left blinker??

ALSO there is a rev limiter it seems that wont let me go over 4250 :/ redline in this 2.2 is above that.. dont really hit that high but i wanna know why and get rid of it. Any ideas?

if it does have tgvs you could have one stuck shut or partially open. normally throws a cell though

The cloged cat wont always throw a cel. The only way to know for sure is to pull it and see if it clears up.

    3. actually i noticed it happens more often when engine is WARM.. like i drove it and parked it for 30 mins or less and left and couldnt start, same thing at the super market, went in for 10 mins, then no start til i cranked it for like 5 minutes with some pedal pumping..

next time i wont do any pedal pumping and see if it can start up... is it bad for me to keep cranking it? what is it damaging if so?

Now I am stumped. But yes cranking it over for more than a few seconds at most 10 will burn up your starter. You need to let it cool down if you crank it for a longer time say 20 seconds or more.

so i ran over to napa and checked the codes and got a few.
P0500 veh speed sensor a malfunction- explains the rev limiter and odometer (and possibly the no cel showing up?)

P0340-camshaft position sensor A bank 1e curcuit malfuncion- explains the hard starting

    P0303 cyl 3 misfire
    P0304 cyl 4 misfire
and these might be related to the short somewhere or another cel. so first imma fix the speed sensor issue

Any input on all of this?

I would just use new ones better than having to do the fix twice.

Speed sensor is the cause of all your problems, the camshaft code is from the extended cranking without starting, or a failed sensor. I have a few known good cam sensors, you can have.

So basically, i need to know what the camshaft position sensor and speed sensor should be outputting cause there seems to be a short(rapid blinking) somewhere and its NOT the bulb..

Well you know,. UPULLRPARTS has a few Subarus. If you find a 5spd, a newer one, It'll work. I think I might has a speed sensor for you to test.

Okay well i ordered my self a new camshaft position sensor off rockauto and it arrived today, put it in, and had a ecu reset(disconnected battery) and after wards, i was able to rev to redline and started first try but went around the block and first gear went over 5k, 2nd gear limited at 4500 again. Stopped and it was back to how it was with a 4500 limit and hard start.. so i think the ecu reset was the variable there. So it probably isnt the sensor now.

I dont know if its normal but i noticed on the old sensor there was a perfect circle etched around the magnet part of it. the new one, had a circle too but it wasnt worn in since it was only a mile of driving. Is this normal circle? What do i check next? like what is the voltage the wires should be putting out?

I may have a speedo sensor of a 92 T-Leg trans hanging around...dunno if it works though. If I find it, Its yours to try out at least.

sure man ur not too far away.. pm me your number so i can pick it up sometime

But any1 know about the scratches?!? should i put up a picture ? im pretty sure thats not normal and its happening from something INSIDE the area that seats the sensor.
