Haha so do I, but they cost me more! Lol. My buddy also got some black grids for his 06 wrx and my other friend just ordered some rotas that are arriving today for his super clean 03 but is making it a surprise what he ordered, all I know is that they are 18x9.5!

Looks really nice. I like the color. I wanted those originally. I found a used set of wheels that someone already painted black. So I had to improve on that, while trying something different. I will be putting them on this weekend for sure. This is my new summer set up.

haha yeah hes aware of fitment related issues, he had 18x8.5 before but with huge tires (245-40s) for a more meaty look and now is thinking of a 245-35 but hard tire to find. haha were just super excited for summer after a long cold snowy winter!

I know 225 fits on 7.5-8.5 wide, 235 is more ideal for 8.5 and 245 is even wider, dont think its only 6 inches but i dont know for sure.

245mm = 9.65in. Not sure where 6 inches comes from.

    You are correct, 245mm = 9.65inches
But it's 245/35. That "35" is the ratio of sidewall to treadwidth over the entire 245mm width of rubber. 35% of 245mm = about 85mm of TOTAL sidewall. divide that by 2 since there are two sides to a tire. Meaning the sidewall height is about 43mm. Subtract both sidewalls from 245mm, and you have 160mm. 160mm = 6.29 inches. So, the treadwidth is 6.3 inches, and the sidewalls will be 1.7 inches tall. So yeah, your friend will be running a 6.3" wide treadwidth with 1.7 inches of sidewall stretched to the outer edges of the wheel.

And if you'd like to test my math, go to any tire shop, have them show you a 245/35 tire. Take a tape measure and measure the sidewall and the tread width. It should come pretty close. The edges of the tires are rounded so you may find things to be a bit off. but I can guarantee you the treadwidth wont be 9.65" wide. If it was, then you wouldn't see people with 10.5" wide wheels running 295-315mm tires.

A 315/30 would net you about 9.3" of treadwidth. My suggestion to anyone looking to run wider tires is to use miata.net tire size calculator.

    http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html

It will help you select the correct size tires for your application. For reference, the stock STi tire size is 225/45/17.

Wait. ****. Disregard that, I suck cocks.

The ratio isn't subtracted. Not sure why I would even think that. You are correct that a 245 is probably 9.5" wide. Durr. Disregard everything I said. The sidewall height is BASED on the ratio to treadwidth, but it isn't subtracted from it. Also, 245/35/18 is a correct replacement size for proper circumference. Again, I oopsed.

I was wondering how you were calculating the section width using the aspect ratio when the section width is given to you in the tire size. Any the who op, I like the new setup. Sometimes pot holes are a good thing lol.

Whatever, I'm not afraid of making mistakes, correcting myself, or being corrected. And I'm definitely not going to sit here and argue that my information is correct if proven wrong. Especially if I prove myself wrong. This isn't Nasioc.
