:p hi everybody!!! i recently just baught a wrx and installed a boost gauge,
in first gear the boost is low, is this something that is controlled by the ecu?
or does this meen my turbo may be going bad? i was thinking that maybe in first gear the boost is lowered for a reason?

if my turbo is going out, about how much would a new or used one cost me?
should i just wait till it gets worse and get an aftermarket one or get another stck one?

    please help!

Don't worry. That's how Subaru intended it to be. Or at least that's what I think they intended it to be. First gear is also very short, so the motor won't have enough time to push out air fast enough to hit max boost.

By the way, welcome to MNSubaru! :D

That is normal, increasing loads in higher gears gets the preasure needed to make higher boost.

That probably explains why my old WRX didn't make "Pssssh" sounds with an APS when I free-revved the motor.

If you want full boost in first gear get engine management like AccessPORT or UTEC! :D

or the fact that its an aps. do they even make a full atmospheric? i know that with the txs bov's you can neutral rev and hit blow off noise.

Maybe I missed something, but what #'s are you actually seeing? I think a stock wrx will hit around 13.5psi and usually not in first gear.

if my gauge is right, something like 5-7 psi, my other gears hit around
    14-15 psi at full throttle.

What boost gauge are you using? Some read low, some read high. Stock boost in first gear shouldn't be much higher than 8psi. So you might be right on track.

Stock WRX is 13.5 psi...steves right on. It should be just under the first bar. The first bar means 14.7psi. Did you buy your car used or new? It shouldn't be passing at all 1.0. Unless it is used and has been modified...Also if you have stock turbo and have aftermarket exhaust/intake it will lag a bit on first gear too.
