New to the forum! Finally found the Minnesota specific forum.

I have had my 02 Silver WRX Wagon for about 6 months, bought it used. The car had been parked in the garage so far this winter, but last weekend had it parked outside and now I have the dreaded gas smell. Has anyone here had any experience with having this fixed at a local dealer and had the cost covered? I have serahced NASIOC and have seen mixed results. My car of course is out of warranty. Any help?

its not an easy job, and if your car is out of warranty, would cost upwards of 1000 dollars  the entire intake manifold needs to be removed

Wow, I didn't know it was still happening on MY2004 cars. I assumed they would have corrected the issue once they got all the reports about it.

$1000 seems a little steep, I can live with it for now. Its not as bad since the temp is higher today. :)

I was curious if anyone has had this paid for locally by SOA? Some people have from other parts of the country, even out of warranty.

Someone needs to get burnt up and they'll do a recall. I'll give you 10 bucks if you step up to the plate. ITS FOR THE GREATER GOOD!

Ha! My car does it, and it's an 05 Saabaru.

Would have thought those Swedes would have been all over it given they live in this crap. Stupid rebadgers!

I thought it might burst into flames on Sunday morning...the smell of gas and vapor/smoke coming out of the hood scoop made me think it was about to go.

Brian Shorten said he was going to check in with the service manager at the dealership he works for to see if they would cover it. Any update Brian? I am waiting to hear back from you before I do anything.

btw, If you are having this problem, I recommend that you put your ventilation to recirculate. You will not smell the fuel inside but your windows will fog up much faster. This is how I have been driving for over a month.

Would they give me an 06 if my car burnt up because of this? If so I'm willing to step up.

We get this during the winter time at the dealer a ton. I would agree that the 1000 is totally absurd. I would be able to fix this for you as well. It is not an easy job for a novice but is fairly easy for someone who is trained. Again, biker boy, I would like to know your experience. How long have you worked on subaru's. Do you have any formal training. I would like to meet sometime and talk about subaru's. I do not want you to think that I am stepping on your feet. Later-

I would tread lightly on that topic. You are brand new to these forums and as such are sort of an unknown quantity. That isn't supposed to be an insult, you just have to think of things like longtime members of this forum would.

bikerboy's credentials are (in my opinion) far beyond most everyone here and many people will attest to the fact that he treats the cars he works on like his own. Well actually, probably better than his own.
