well a friend of mine(nissan nut) says that sr20 is best 4 cylinder engine made.. we're talking stock. I says to him that the ej22 would be able to take it down.. Which engine would win? lets say in weight, crank hp, and also if engines were in any cars by the maker of engine(sr20 in nissan model, ej in subaru) kinda ridiculous topic but it got me wondering
i say the sr20. iron block = gobs and gobs of boost. although the ej22t (im assuming) is a fully closed deck its still aluminum. and its an H4 which means its not as easy to rev to high (8.5-10k) rpms. which means torque low end but not as much power at high end. i vote the ej22t personally but fact is i think the sr20 would win by along shot. another powerful engine is the 4g63. while its not reliable it still kicks major ass! DSM FTW
Umm, the SR20 is an aluminum block. I have two of them less than 25' from me, so I'm pretty damn sure of it. But yeah, the SR20DE is a wonderful engine.
GREAT POST :ugh: I've owned and modified an sr20det - it was an awesome engine. I think arguing about which one is better is a excercise in futility though because the best 4 cylinder ever is the d16y8. truf
SubaruKid I guess if you and your friends are serious about finding out the answer and anybody else who would really be interested in finding out you're more than welcome to see it first hand this season. There are two of us on this board with these exact motors, both also happens to be highly modified, and both owners are experienced drivers. This season we'll be doing some R&D at various venues which includes DCTC, BIR, drifting and more which will give us a varity from short technical and into high speed courses. Mt. Fuji w/Black Mamba and MusashiRacing w/RedHead will be happy to entertain you. I dare you to come out and catch the ride of your life! LOL And than you can come to your own conclusion!!!
You sure about that? I thought the first production cars to use the sr20det were the bluebird and the pulsar gti-r... both awd... and the gti-r was the homologation version for wrc, right?
here, i found an old sport compact car article lol somewhat related http://www.sportcompactcarweb.com/e...det_subaru_ej20_automotive_nirvana/index.html
Yeah, the SR20DET was a rally engine. I don't know that the EJ22 ever was, as it would have been the EJ20 that the rally cars were based off of. The SR20DE is aluminum. Really, it is. The CA18 and KA24 are iron blocks, but the SR engines are aluminum.
Well youre partially right about the modern day use of these motors. The sr20det is used a lot for drifting, road race, and of course mad tyte skreet racing. The ej22t is most commonly used for...well... daily driving and skreet racing? Lol
Which EJ22? E? T? FFS..... Both motors can handle about the same amount of power stock, granted they are fresh enough to handle it. Longevity stock? I don't know about the SR20, but both the EJ22 E and T variants will go several hundred thousand miles without problems if maintained. In the end, having a pissing contest over what motor is better is an exercise in futility. They each have their strengths and weaknesses.
As a matter of fact it is, it doesn't help that its painted black. LOL I swear I googled it. If I'm wrong Noodle is wrong! Thanks for enlightening me Carl!
[/QUOTE] The 2.2 version was not used for rally. The EJ22T was essentially the same block as the closed deck EJ20G, which was/is still used today in the WRC engines. Cripes, nobody reads anything anymore. http://www.mnsubaru.com/forums/showthread.php?t=28936
haha how ironic.. i just got done working on a d16y5 that had timing problems but it wasnt timing belt(did that too) or distrubtor.. def not best lol and i will def never own a honda cause of it. Im looking forward to this.. might really have to check this out.. does no harm to you well i was just talking ej in general or ej22e.. non turbo Well since they are both aluminum.. what does an ej22e(non turbo.) weigh? Thanks alot for quick info guys...
What I do know is that you gotta hit me up when you decide to sell the sentra... at your pace that'll be what? next month? edit: damn... past tense... no can has sentra.
If the nissan guys can't decide which NISSAN motor is "the best," how do you expect to come up with answer to this question?
Sheen, you thinking a rallycross car, or??? There's been a guy around the south metro (not sure exactly where) trying to sell a rough-body B13 SE-R for dirt. I've been really tempted to try to pick it up and part it out, but money/time is the issue. (though I just got a job offer, so I could always treat myself . . .)
Yes, but it has nothing to do with the original post anymore, as you'd well expect here at MNThreadjacking.com
I don't believe you either. LOL JK Back to the topic: For those interested in finding out, you can find us at the following events this season. The first summer tarmac event is April 18 @ DCTC and followed by BIR in late May. http://mnsubaru.com/forums/showthread.php?t=30604
As a matter of fact we are putting the two together finally after a year in the works next weekend at DCTC on July 25th and than at BIR on the 26th. I'll be providing my impressions if anyone is interested. Maybe get some HD GoPro video if they turn out. Both cars have similar setup with different specifications. Hoping for a nice day to do some testing.
