No RSB..... what?

I was at work today on lunch and i decided to take a look under my car to see how it all goes together (i like to know). I was in the back by the exhaust and i noticed there was no RSB. I have a '96 Impreza Brighton. I am wondering if the car came with one and someone stole it or if it was never there.

If i were to get a one what will i need (parts wise).

I've driven an STI with no rsb, no problems

 

Would i have better handling if i had one? (stupid question)

No, I don't think you had one stock. You'd need the RSB of your choice, endlinks, mounting brackets, rear lateral links from an RSB equipped car (or aftermarket ones like Whiteline) and associated hardware.

Yes- brighton is a trim level. Brightons did not have a RSB.

If you are going to add a bar do it the easy way.

STI rear bar
Bushings to match the bar size
STI end links
'04-'07 sway bar mounts

This way you don't have to change the lateral links, which on older cars often requires a sawzall and new bolts. If you want help with it once you have the parts let me know, I could probably have the whole thing installed in under 30 minutes.

 

^yep....the basic impreza's didn't have them. the legacies are heavier, so they all got them in some form or another (although most were so small that they probably didn't really do anything anyway...).


I didn't know there was a way to do it without swapping lateral links though! cool!!

 

I wish I would have known that! So how does the end link attach to the suspension? Anyone have a picture?

I used 2.5RS stuff on my '97 Brighton. I had to cut 2 bolts and carefully retap the threads where the swaybar brackets attach to because they were plugged and corroded.

 

Ok thanks for the help. So if i put on a RSB will there be a big difference in the handling and when will i feel it the most?
How much will it cost on average for the sway bar mounts and endlinks?
Does anyone have a picture of the back of the car where you can see the mounts?

(sorry for all the questions, I just like to know how things work and the effects)

It was common on a lot of older cars to not have rear swaybars.

RSB = good Just get an appropriate size.
