i just put on a new intercooler on my 02 wrx and ever since i put it on i have been getting a weird high pitched buzzing noise when i boost. i replaced all the gaskets and made sure every thing was tight and it still does it. it is a Icevex top mount and its brand new, it is bigger than stock (here is some info on it http://www.fastwrx.com/ictoinup.html ). any ideas if its something stupid like my blow off valve (stock wrx bov) doesnt work with it or maybe that brand of itercooler just does it??? any help would be awesome cause i'm very confused. thanks alot
its a little higher than normal, like 17.5 rather than 16, but i tightened every possible place that it could be leaking from and i tested it like 4 times and i'm really confused. i just bought a new gasket for my bov and tightened it all the way and i have new gaskets on the y-pipe ends that meet the intercooler.
this is my first stop, i was going to call you and martin tomorrow after work to check it out because i just finished it at like 930 tonight. do you have any ideas dude
I just put on a new TMIC myself, and I can't find my boost leak. I'm pretty sure it's coming from the BOV flange. I ordered new gaskets. Hope that solves it.
A high-pitched noise like that is generally a gasket vibrating when air rushes past it. Its like that putting a blade of grass between your thumbs trick. If your BOV flange isn't flat it might leak there.
i was thinking that maybe the bottom of the bov was lifted a little bit because its pretty tight around there, but thanks for the help i'll try to fix that today and post back if that works.
my gaskets on the y-pipe were hanging out a little bit so i cut the wholes bigger and it worked. i thought it was my bov gasket at first too so i bought a new one and it made no difference. thanks for the help
