http://www.engadget.com/2008/07/22/lightnings-120-000-all-electric-sports-car-unveiled-in-london/ Thats what i am talking about. :yumyum:
in 30 years our grandkids are going to ask us "why did you all have to have cars? didn't you have some form of mass transit?" I'll say, "honey, grandpa couldn't down shift into corners on mass transit, you should have heard your grandma scream when we went those corners!"
Buying a hybred or an electric car is like saying "I know we have an energy crisis on our hands, so lets augment the issue by useing electrical current to power my car generated from coal power (most likely) and decrease the availibility of my local power grid and if this realy catches on, well... LOOMING DOOM OF ROLLING BROWN_OUTS FOR EVERYONE!!!!" It's a shotty solution for a serious problem.
So what exactly do you propose? In theory as least electricity could(and is to a certain extent) renewable. It's certainly a better long term solution than ethanol.
So I assume you bicycle everywhere then, right? Otherwise you're just the guy who complains about the best solution anyone can come up with despite having no better ideas of your own. Oh, and it's "shoDDy".
enthanol is unethical IMO. But I propose a viable mass transit solution and carbon consumption taxes on house holds. this will prompt people to not make less crucial trips, or to create demand for mass transit. If you had a solar or wind power generator then I'd say electric car it is... but no. they will burn good old fassion coal so electric car owners can feel like they are having a poitive impact on the enviroment. Really, energy is energy is energy wether it is gasoline, coal, or otherwise. So what is going to happen when AC current demand goes up? The price will also increase. and power will be come scarce. The electric car is a farce, and would only work well if we find new sources for electric power, or if only a few ECOSNOBS can drive them while thumbing their noses at us and pretend the are doing the enviroment well. So what is the future? Masstransit.... rail.... busses.... scooters.... untill the apocolipse.
I'm too out of shape to bike everywhere I'm not a ECO-SNOB, I just don't see any good logic to support broad use of electric cars, don't take it personaly....:laugh:
You know that there's a massive surplus of energy at night (which is literally just wasted because powercos can't shut down/turn down plants at night and can't afford to store it in batteries) which is when these cars will be charged? Also, efficency of larger engines is greater than many smaller engines. Finally electric egines have max torks at 0rpms. w00t!
damn it, you beat me to this! It is true the energy surplus at night will be enough to charge quite a few electric cars. Plus when the prices go down on wind mills and solar panels people will be able to use energy from them more. And there two things here: one is use of oil to power millions of cars. Oil might or might not run out anytime soon, but having alternatives is good. Second is pollution. New generation of coal and natural gas powered plants produce less pollution, than millions of cars. And Nuclear energy produces no pollution( except the waste that can be recycled by using right technology).
Thats exactly what they are planning to do. I heard about it today on a radio. Car companies and energy companies are going to work together to install special "timers" on cars and in peoples homes and power plants that will regulate the amount of energy needed to charge the car and at certain time of the day the charge will be quicker and stronger and at some it will take much more time. It will depend on the overall demand.
