ok im a newb when it comes to wrxs so here it goes. i recently had an uncatted uppipe installed and a stage 2 open ecu reflash done and the check engine light is still on and the only code says like heat sensor low bank 1 or something like that. also just to check again i know people argue about backfire and afterfire, well my cars seems to "afterfire" more and is alot louder, should i be safe? does that just mean im running too rich.

You got an o2 wideband? what does that say?.... It might just be bad gas... Try to run higher octane and reset the computer... and see if it goes away... could be too aggressive of a tune? could be alot of factors...depends on how long you had the tune.. and it just happened or you had it awhile and it just started to happen... not enough info to go on.. hope that helps...

    Who did your tune?

What is the number of the CEL the car is throwing?

Also, please use punctuation correctly, I'm pretty sure I still don't understand your OP :/.

If its a heater malfunction, that means your O2 sensor is junk. Get it replaced to make your car run as well as it can.

As far as backfire/after-firing, that is usually due to running an atmospheric blow-off valve. If you're still running the stocker, you may have air leaks somewhere.

Bullwinkle: he's got a reliable stage 2 tune form TJAMZ.

    Shibbs: Atmo blow-off is correct.

Throw up the code AJ I'm guessing 0031, 0032 which is the front O2 sensor or come by and I'll scan it,check the plugs/wiring quickly and fix that bolt too. I might even have a spare O2 we can check with.

i was talking with some peopl and they were saying that many times with a catless exhaust and stage 2 tune, some people were fixing the front O2 codes by backing the front O2 sensor out a bit or throwing a washer on to get it slightly out of the pipe. Anyone know anything about this?

That sounds like a band-aid to "fix" other problems such as either a crappy tune or a mechanical issue with a failing o2 sensor.

AJ, I might have a spare 02 sensor if you need it.

    I agree with this.

could be. The people who did this were subaru techs, at least one of which is well respected (elroy; fyi Faber)

they had tried just about everything on an employees stage 2 wrx. I do suppose that any of the generic stage two tunes could be the problem. I just want to help out AJ without the money part that usually comes with this. I'm going to try a new O2 sensor this weekend and see what happens.

What code was the car throwing?

I'm still saying it's a band-aid for an underlying problem -- crap tune (causes fuel trims to go whack and throw lean bank 1 codes), vacuum leak (causes the same codes as a crap tune), or a failing o2 sensor (usually heater codes or low voltage ones).

A front o2 sensor matters! Get that **** fixed now. There is no bandaid for a FRONT 02 sensor to not throw a code, if its junk, its ****ing junk...

That code is for the heater circuit in the o2 sensor. Either your connection is bad or the sensor is shot.
