The Nord Stern Porsche club with the assistance of MAC is hosting the first local Autocross of the year on April 17. It'll be at Valleyfair and you can preregister a myautoevents.com
Does Auto-x charge the driver for cones hit? My car turns into a snow plow when I get behind the wheel.
I'm a big time newbie to this stuff. is this the thing where there's a course w/cones and you drive around them to see how fast or.... can someone please explain to me how this whole event is like or how it works. I've never been to one of these but seeing pics seems fun. I have an 03 wrx with lil mods.
Yep, thats the gist of it. Check out mnautox.com theres FAQs for beginners and tons of information in the forums there.
ImprezaWrx9, there is also a Novice School run by the Minnesota Autosports Club this spring. It will tell you everything you need to know, and you will get some no pressure seat time on an autocross course. The *only* way to really enjoy your ride without busting the bank or your car! Check out mnautox.com.
THANKS FOR THE REPLY. BEFORE I DECIDE TO SIGN UP (SOUNDS LIKE A GREAT EVENT) MY BREAKS AND TIRES ARE NOT IN GREAT OF A SHAPE... SHOULD I GET NEW TIRES AND BREAK PADS BEFORE I ENTER OR WHAT SHOULD BE AN IDEAL CONDITION OF A CAR?
A lot of people run their tires until steel cords start protruding! Tires are very important, so performance tires are going to make a big difference, but when you're starting out you can learn on any tires. As for brakes, if they're squeeling (wear indicators) you should probably replace them before your calipers and rotors start to get damaged. And I second Pat's novice school. It was a really great way to get into the sport for me 5 years ago.
This is coming up. I want to go both days...to the novice school then to the novice event. Who is with me?
jdgrimm - gotta figure out my work schedule tomorrow, but I think I'm in for both days this weekend. will sign up/let you know tomorrow if i can do it. Gspot - thanks for the heads up.
Regarding the novice class: Theres only like 5 spots open, so sign up asap. I might be there to help out, but my friend who signed up said she doesnt want me there.
so who's in for sure? I may or may not be running, but I'll probably be there to get a feel for it. Looks like a fair number of subies are already signed up. Are there any club membership requirements (MAC or SCCA) to run?
I'll be there! I expect to have the RS ready with all sorts of new goodies... including the stickies. Time for DSP domination! Christian
Theres no club affiliation discounts with this event. If you want a feel for it, just enter. Valleyfair is a big lot and a great place to learn, its not as confusing as the smaller lots. Christian, it looks like STX is going to get bumped into DSP unless we get one more entry. Maybe I'll have a shot to follow you for 2nd.
Yeah, I dont think its gonna fill up. However if you preregister you get a $5 discount. I strongly recommend ANYONE who wants to autocross, or even drive their car hard, to attend this event. Valleyfair is an awesome lot, its very big and its not as confusing as some of the tracks setup in the smaller lots. There's going to be a lot of cool cars there, plenty of people that can give you advice, and you can get the season started as early as possible. The more seat time you can get the better! Just get there early enough to walk the course a couple times, then walk it during the instructor led course walk and you'll be set. If you need anything, just look for me with the white WRX with gold wheels and 900 on the sides. Also, bring some tape to make your numbers with. It has to contrast with your paint so dont buy blue painters tape for your WRB car!
I'll be there, I have to break in my new toy. Just look for the silver WRX Wagon. See you guys there.

I did the registration last season and there must of been at least a dozen non-registered drivers waiting in line for an opening. So if you plan on driving and dont plan on pre-registering, I'd say dont bother showing up, cuz your will likely not be able to run. Unless you dont mind picking up cones and watching all day!
It seems that the computer keeps freezing when I try to log in to their webpage. I have tried and tried but cannot pre-register at my computer at home or at work. I will have to show up @ 7:30 AM and pay the $40. }

anyone who reads this i think i'll drop by firestone between 6:00 and 6:20 tomorrow morning... Probably leave by 6:20 as I'd like to get there before tech inspection opens to allow for ample course walking. I also have to see somebody about getting into SI...
I will be there and i am going to sign up when i get there. I looked at the list and only 135 people have signed up and 175 people can. I am going to try to be there around 7:30
I just want to let everyone know that i beat Fong nice and good I took secong place out of 35 Justin, where the heck were you Matt S, That guy with the blue sti does play for the Minnesota Wild I will post pics in a little bit Evan
It was really fun. Hope to see more of you guys there next time. Most of the pics are of me but Fong took a lot more. There was a total of 193 drivers. The guy who owns the blue sti in the next pic plays for the Minnesota Wild. This is the car that got me second place.
I just want everyone to know that I beat Evan (Speedemon) on the final battle. I kicked serious arse! } My best time of the day was 1 min 8 sec. way to represent the subie today Speedemon - we'll have to catch that SRT-4 next time } Really cool to meet some new people from MNSubaru and from the other clubs out there... I finally cracked my goal of 1:10 during the fun runs with a low 1:07, I was stoked. I know the timing got screwed up, but I'm pretty sure that was well after I ran. Otherwise I was running 1:11's, midpack for SI. (if you're wondering, best times of the day were just under a minute, with the midline being closer to 1:06 or so.) Wasn't there for the competition, and I'd say that even if I had done really well; it was a great chance to get familiar with autocross and now I know what I need to work on at the school next weekend. Really glad I did this event. They accepted something like 190+ entrants which made for alot of good spectating etc, but limited the runs a bit. I'm sure the next event will be a bit smaller... I prefer having more instructors available bmwcca style and likewise more seat time, but at least my winter tires aren't as mad at me

Great showing of Subarus today! That was like 3 times as many scoobies as usual. Just need to get some more WRXs in STX so it doesnt get bumped into DSP anymore. (where Christian just demolishes us)
Awesome, I'm glad everyone had fun... see, it wasn't that bad. Congrats on the time guys... you'll improve as you get more seat time.
Thanks for another great day of autocross everybody. It was good to see a ton of new Subies out there today. Not just the usual suspects that i usually see. It was a fun day and everything went pretty smooth. See everybody next time. <blockquote id="quote"><font size="1" face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica" id="quote">quote:<hr height="1" noshade id="quote">Originally posted by Gspot Great showing of Subarus today!
