anyone ice fishing this year? im in the process of getting things together for ice fishing. Just got my vexilar today!
but there is ice!! heres a pic of medicine lake yesterday morning. aweek of cold days and nights and its ice fishing time!
Never did get out to fish last year. I'm definitely gonna throw some beer.. I mean bait down the hatch this year.
FL-18 pro pack, VERY nice! I have the same one and LOVE IT!!! My gear is still up in the garage though, it will be at least a few weeks before I'm ready go get my gear together.
Soooooo, what would be the minimum one would need to do a little ice fishing? I've never gone and wouldn't consider it something that would take over my every last free moment but would like to maybe give it a try. About all I know is the fishing poles are tiny and you need a hole in the ice.
bare minimums... ice fishing pole, some jigs, a ice auger. to have more fun? you'd want a flasher to find fish and a power auger for easy cutting. Yes i bought my flasher used. but it came with a new ice ducer.
badbenny, When the ice is good and thick, shoot me a PM and we'll figure out a time that works and I'll meet you out and show you the ropes. Auger - hand augers are cheap and they'll put a hole in the ice. Poles - no-brainer Tackle - a couple jigs, bobbers, hooks and bait. Whenever I see someone with a hand auger out there drilling away, I usually go over and ask how many holes they want in the ice and drill them for the guys. and have accepted a few bucks as thanks. You don't NEED a shelter or a flasher but they're awesome to have.
When we use to use hand auger, we never get that kind of help. Once we brought shelter, flasher and gas auger. People would come and ask us question and normally they see a pile of fish.
^^ i like it to be able to drive my car out there befor i go walking out there i know its over kill but i hear to many horror stories of people falling through so i wait till january normaly
Got a portable fish house if any one is interested... brand new, still sealed in the box. Clam shell I think its called- 2 person.
List it in the for sale threads... it will sell, but remember to price it (or else). EDIT: as I read this again... I now ask myself if you are offering to sell it or you are enviting other to join you in it?
There isnt much ice down here, bet the next couple of nights will fix that..... Will be nice to get out this year!!
at a 40 acre metro lake. ice thick on some parts, other parts, not soo much. looks like a dog fell in.
Apparently the north-west side of Minnetonka is starting to freeze over but it's too thin for this guy.
this is at theodore wirth park. they have a dock that surrounds the swimming area and have left it there so i was on the dock shooting that photo. hoping to get out tomorrow to break in the new auger!! how thick was the ice vangstaboi86?
nice catch! were u on a metro area lake? i walked on some pretty sketchy ice over the weekend, didnt catch any eyes, but the crappie bite is on!
Was up north and caught plenty of 10-11.5" crappies. The ice had a good 5" and some 5 plus inches of clear ice. Can't wait to get back onto the ice this weekend!
would the ice be safe with the warming temps? i went by a few lakes and a few had open water and the rest had some kind of water on the ice.
