Was trying to think of a nice good hot time to go camping.... so the best guess is 3rd weekend in july.

so i'm tossing 2 ideas, either way... 1 of them is going to happen depending on who all likes which better.

1.) Float rite camping, 3rd weekend in july... simple.. we meet on friday, jurny to the grounds... camp... have good times getting drunk on a dirty river.

2.)there is a place in ohio, called the nelson ledges query. Gorgeous place to camp with safe cliff jumping in ultra clear water... semi long jurny.... but Soooooo worth it, and super in-expensive.

so the ohio jurny would be leave mpls, arrive... camp, leave camp.. arrive at 6 flags. after a day at 6 flags head home.

so vote 1 or 2. Majority of course rules.

You definately don't want to make a weekend trip out of a drive to Ohio.

And I'm only saying this because I know that drive like the back of my hand. I can't even remember how many times I've driven the Indianapolis - Columbus, OH route...and the trip from Chicago to Indianapolis I am very familiar with. You need to figure on a travel time of about 14-15hours. I don't care what any of the mapping sites say. It will take you at the very least 3.5 hours from Indy to Columbus. That is assuming you hit no traffic whatsoever while leaving Indy, and no traffic whatsoever going into Columbus.
Chicago to Indy. Prepare for 4 hours at least. 294 is crappy, but it is still the fastest way. Unless they have fixed it since I last drove through there. Then getting through the 294/94/80 merger on the Indianapolis border near Gary is usually really bad.
Also keep in mind, that anyone that works full time is probably not going to be able to get a Friday off without taking vacation. Which means, if we go the Ohio route, some people will have to leave in the afternoon. They wouldn't even arrive in Ohio until the very early morning on Saturday.

dead on with the long drive..

I Should maybe change it to a campout or 6flags jurny.

would definatly take some stress out of the ohio trip... even tho the ledges are gorgeous.

I have to agree with the mixx here! There are alot of nice camping locations in WI. with some decent cliff jumping and what not. The Dells would be my suggestion to you, closer+waterparks+bomb az* three story go-kart tracks +grade "A" camp sites and evening attractions. Not to mention good eats all around! hmmmm...why is it everytime I throw out an idea, we end up in Wisconsin!?hahaha:dunno:

so we'll nix ohio together... was just more of an idea with that one.

so lets get your ideas of where to camp... then we'll vote.
I'm all for the dells now that you mention it, but list up your favorite local camp sites, next month we can vote. (maybe I can get group discounts on camping)

I think at the dells we paid like $5 to camp per night...no real need for discount on that. But!, if the dells was a "for sure", then you could probably get group discounts on the water parks/mini golf/go karts/shows/etc...

I think the Dells might be a good plan. I've never been, it's not very far, and there is alot to do there.

If you are thinking about the Dells, Devils Lake is not that far from the Dells. The lake there has a great swiming beach. There is plenty camping sites. Might be cheaper to stay at Devils Lake then do day trips to the Dells.

St. Croix State Forest's Rock Lake campground has some sweet gravel roads, we go there for the 4th of July every year. Lots of mosquitos depending on recent rainfall. Great swimming/canoeing lake. On the St. Croix due east from Hinkley.

FTW!!!!!!!!! this place is awesome. however it si close enough were it could just be a day trip. which we should do!

my vote goes to the river float / camping. i have never done a river float and think it would be a blast. plus its closer than going to ohio.
