So my car leaks oil on the ground. I put some dye in the system and checked it with a UV light. I cant really see much because the cross brace in front is blocking my view. It looks to be coming from the rear of the engine. Without being able to see exactly where its coming from my best guess would be the rear main seal or possibly oil pan gasket. So my question is, Is this a comon problem? And also lets say it is the rear main seal, whats the easiest way to change it? drop the tranny or pull the engine? Thanks for the help guys.
valve cover gaskets, rear access cover, rear main, oil pump o-ring, front crank seal, oil pressure sending unit, all very common. on all ej motors.
Sorry, Its a 1998 Legacy GT 2.5 EJ25 So which are on the rear of the engine. I know the valve cover gaskets are not leaking because they are new(with the headgasket). Im assuming that the only one of those on the rear of the engine is the rear main seal and rear access cover?
rear access cover leaks are more common then rear main seals. oil pan? almost never, not unless someone has already been in there and installed a ****ty napa gasket (stock its RTV)
Do you have any more info on that? I cant find what parts I need or where its located. I may be replacing the tranny soon so Maybe that would be easy then.
You should have replaced that stuff when the engine was out, i guarantee it was at least seeping, you are now paying for it. dealership only item. Become a MSOC member and get 20% off parts. @ morries
ive gotta a leggy too and im sorta tech savvy, and if you need a hand throw me a PM ill most likely by more than happy to help
Does anyone have any more info on where this is located and how to replace it and whatnot(the access panel that is)?
Its on the very back of the motor behind the clutch/flywheel, it has 6 bolts, you'll have to buy a new cover and bolts, the cover is around 36 bucks and the bolts are arount 80 cents each
