Ok so i just got under the new forester today after noticing a few oild spots on the garage floor, this is what i see. I really don't know what could be the issue.. just looking for advice on what it might be, seal, hosing, plug not tight. But any help would be appreciated, obviosly this is right in front of the car just under that cover. Also in the last pick is that a good indication of needing a new head gasket or is that from the other leaks. Also if they are just seals any thoughts on cost of parts? If nothing needs to be done imidiatly how much longer could it go?? Things like that. Thanks for the help and advice!

    Matt

    btw( 98 forester s 89,XXX miles)

oil pump reseal time, cam seals and valve cover gaskets! Its very common, and not that big or expensive of a , and if you just watched the oil level you could drive it like this forever.

I have seen this before. A lack of 35R on a subaru engine causes oil leaks.

Looks like you have an oil pump seal or cam seals leaking. Either way you need to pull the timing covers to inspect. You might have a valve cover leak also. I guess I would degrease it and clean it up. Then drive and inspect.

 Thanks guys, always soo fast to answer with good info! :) If its not that tough of a job about how long guesstimated time would it take to put the new seals and everthing on?? Granted i'd be attemping this at my place, (with adult supervision or someone who know's more about my car than me) Could it be done in one day?? And lastly would anybody want to sit and point their finger and tell me how to fix this stuff if i were able to provide you food and beverage (of your choise) for the day??

You will most likely want to replace the front main seal if you are going to be pulling the oil pump off.

Also with the miles on there (getting close to 100K) you might think about throwing in a new water pump (not to $$) and a new timing belt as well.
