    wouldn't this just f up the car beyond belief? I can't imagine it being in condition to drive after that.

    Considering that despite the odds, he lands it pretty flat, it could well have done only minor damage. Had he nosed it in he could have been in a world of hurt, both car-wise and personal-injury-wise.
