So last night I drained my tranny fluid and let it sit over night, and this morning I plugged it back up and poured in the mix. Then I took the old fluid to dump in into a container and I find the F-ing washer I forgot to put back on the bolt. Yay for leaks... -_-; I'm a *******.
yeah I know, thanks! I'm just a little irritated since I wanted to do everything right and not be a stupid girl. =/
Get a bucket, a nice new clean one, then pull the plug, toss the washer on, and put it back in the hole as quick as you can. Then return the fluid that spilled in the bucket back into the tranny.
Oh, and there are plenty of stupid guys around here. Hell, AWDImprezaL removed my drainplug a couple weeks ago and forgot to put the oil drain pan under the hole to catch the oil. Now I have 75lbs of kitty litter on my garage floor.
I told ya we should rally your R/C in the garage. It's like a mini gravel pit. Just need some miniature cones.
if you had muscles, you wouldnt have had to use mine (also lack of brain) and none of this would have happend.
Then the fluid is all mixed up, what's the point in pouring it in order in the first place? I don't think I'm that fast to change it anyway, you guys think it'll be fine if I just leave it the way it is? For now I think I'm just gonna check for leaks and if it they are bad I'll try and change it. LOL I don't think I'd ever forget the drain pan. I would hate to buy that much kitty litter without having a kitty.
I haven't driven it yet, I actually just woke up at 11, rolled outta bed, went straight to the garage, jacked the car back up, plugged it, lowered it, filled it, cleaned my air filter, all done in jammies. LOL I was excited. So now I gotta clean up and then I'll take it to work and see how it goes. =]
Not only do I appreciate women who work on there own cars I find it kind of turn on. Way to go Xtreme even though you made alil mistake you still get my thumbs up  Oh and for everyone else I checked my oil.
put on a very clean pair of gloves and a very clean bucket unplug, quickly jam your finger into the hole, put washer back onto plug, plug it back in, tada, done lol
i need some of that fluid, did some donuts yesterday....maybe i could use some. care to do mine for me miss tran?
I have a friend (yes, a friend, not me) who went to change the oil on his cars once (he had two Ford Escorts, exact same car). He drained out the fluid, filled it up and off his wife went in one. Turns out he drained the transmissions, on each car, and then put oil in the engine, meaning that the engine had twice as much oil as it should have had and the transmission had none. The transmission on his wife's car was completely destroyed. They found out what had happened soon enough to save the other transmission. He told me he was never going to change his own oil again. A few years later he did the exact same thing... But at least that time he caught it before he destroyed another transmission or an engine. So, don't feel bad. I actually drained the oil from a car once, put the plug back in with a nice new washer, and then hopped in the car and fired it up. After about 10 seconds, I was like, WTF isn't the oil light going off? Yeah, the new oil was still sitting in the unopened jug. And at least the engine has a little bit of lubrication from the film of old oil. Ah well, that was a long time ago. I need to change the oil in both my WRX and my SE-R. The SE-R before I race it this weekend, the WRX before I drive it to Houghton, MI at the end of the month. At least the SE-R is quick, dropping/reattaching the skidplate off of the WRX adds a few minutes to the job.
^^ yah everyone makes mistakes, lessons learned. NOW does your garage smell like tranny fluid? the smell ... does not come off, fry-man ...
The gear oil on my Columbia jackie still has a hint of smell that I can't get out. Should I wash it with GoJo CREAM in the laundry machine???
The hole is pretty big, and my finger is pretty small, I'll probably need to use three fingers. Oh hell, I might as well school bus it eh? haha
Lesson totally learned. Tranny fluid smell ...kinda?? I bought the dumbest F-ing drain pan/box. I told the guy I wanted the pan, and he insisted on the stupid box with the hole. So I end up arguing with him that I'm positive the fluids are going to splash off the box and all over my garage floor. Still he insisted, so letting him be the MAN that he is I bought it, and what do you know? Tranny fluid all over the garage floor, UGH! Today I'm going to take the box back for them to get rid of the fluid and tell the ass he better exchange the pan/box for me, even if it's used, I told the idiot it was gonna happen. Bleh.
I'm serious! The wild tranny setup could use some of the good stuff. I'm doing a wheel bearing on a Impreza today, but I do have tomorrow off. BUT FIRST I need to get the fluids.
Heading up to the Keweenaw eh? Love it there, got my first chance to snowmobile there two winters ago, and they had a record storm while I was there. 55+ inches overnight, and it was pristinely groomed when I got out at 6am the next day. Best snowmobiling I've ever done, even better than my multiple trips to West Yellowstone.
WHY DID YOU BUY ONE! God didn't we have this conversation not too long ago about me buying a T70 for everyone and anyone to use? Oh wait, that was a while ago, like last fall I think. I'm getting old I think.
