    :wavey:

Just flashed my car with some low end timing similair to a spec-c. This thing is addicting... I flashed my personal car 5 times already making little adjustments.

I also did a customers STi that kept getting the p0420 code after Shane put on the exhaust. No more... I think thats how we are gonna do them from now on.

Who else is using it and what is your "preferred" program for modifying maps?

    I use Enginuity.

There are some GREAT basemaps out there now for mildly modified cars that provide a good starting point.

I used Enginuity today to turn off the CEL.. but when I resaved it didn't re-compute the checksum so I got a p0620(I think) code right away.

Open ECU is definately cool. I'm also using Enginuity for my Saabaru.

Just remember if you are doing a true flash to the ROM it has a finite number of times it can be written to. What I have read is it is around 100 times. Realtime maps I do not think it is a problem at all because that is in RAM.

Course I am probably telling you stuff you know but I guess it is more for the people that don't know.

I have thought about doing this a few times myself. With the upcoming upgrades I might have to start doing this too.

Yeah, but no one knows for sure if it's 100... I'm sure some people are way over that.

Go and download the latest definition files. For the DBW cars, there is a checksum fix box that you can check to fix this issue after altering the ROM.

Yup, gotta love it, I've done my car like 5 times too, no problems, I like enginuity best too, haven't actually played around with it much lately.

and as far as flashing goes 100 is a poor guess, I think the number is probably much closer to 1000 if that, I'm sure there are people well over that on an ecu. Even at that ecu don't seem to be that hard to come by, atleast not last I looked I could easily find atleast 5 for the $300 range give or take.

I have never heard of a EEPROM being rAted at anything less than 1000 rewrites, I think its usually more like 100,000.

And that is also the same thing I have always seen in any spec. sheet I have ever looked at for EEPROM but every place I look everyone is saying it is about 100 in the ECU for Subaru. I really wonder myself if it is that low but I would still take caution.

Well, we are already on revision 2. Once we get that wideband, I wouldn't be suprised if we hit at least v20.

    Just reflashed the LGT. Yikes!

I'm now on v4 in the wagon, and just finished with the v2 adjustments for the 'leggy. My laptop sucks.

I'm hesitant to jump in and flash anyone else car, personally since I'm very green to this whole thing, I have the cable, I probably do not have any maps for an 02 though, if you want to do the research and such Find the maps, I can let you use my cable, you'll need to know how and what to jumper too, I just do not want to be liable or responsible if someone else car or computer has any problems. Personally I wouldn't want any changes to my mapping without being able to datalog it.

Do some research, Find a map or 2, order yourself a cable, really you should start there before anywhere else, because you will want to know if and how much your car likes the map you uploaded, and you can only really have a good idea with datalogging.

I'd kind of like to see a little get together just for the open ecu guys to share a little knowledge, in person, some place we can plug our computers in.

Yeah I flashed an 06 STi stage 1 Saturday... the guy was so happy he was buying me drinks all night at the bar.:yumyum:

Probably picked up 20whp... I need to get a wideband on it.. I think there is still some room for improvement.

You're welcome to do that at my house (east St. Paul). Me and wall of tv's are always futzing around in my garage. I'm not sure if my wireless infernet reaches out to the garage.

How does re-flashing with open-ecu affect the cobb programming? Say you're up to stage 2 running a 93 map, then you reflash, will the accessport still work with the ECU after that?

OpenECU is like an alternative to the accessport. It's essentially a "base map".

I *think* although not tested... if you accessport a car and then copy the rom off it and put it on another car the accessport thinks its married to both of them. :eek:hnoes:

Why wouldn't you just get your ap tuned for your car?

Or download the tune. Unmarry the ap from your car. Sell the ap. Then retune with open ecu.

So people are just flashing their cars without track/dyno tuning? Without using widebands?

    Scary...

I don't think that's right. Maybe I'm talking out of my a55, but I think the AP can read the serial number of the ECU and that's what it compares to for the "marrying" function. Tom: Have we actually tested this?

ummm the fact that Cobb spends time making standard maps that will work across the board within safe levels.... as opposed to doing it yourself with not a huge lot of experience and knowledge... hit a few wrong settings and BOOOOM

Its not. All I was saying is making changes to a vehicles tune without proper monitering equipment is a tad dangerous.

I've tested it. That's not the case.

It seems that the AP "remembers" whatever it's last operation was.

I hope that's not the case either.

If anything, shops should be glad that the open source tuning is getting more popular -- they will get plenty of business from idiots blowing up their cars.

Got my sti flashed to stage 2 last night and all i can say is :D 1.2 bars @3.3k RPMS FTW!!!

the only reason i could see someone being against it is becuase it is pretty much the exact thing as a AP just cheaper.
