Nuke, Sorry you had to wait in the cold so long with your girl, but I'm sure the gains were worth it :)

I'd like to start working with my open ecu stuff. I need a car dropped later next week for a few days for me to experiment on.
Preferable something reliable/close to stock where I can get a consistant gain.

It is already tuned. I would have to check to make sure by me editing your code I wont' mess up your cobb tune.
But I would like to see if I can make any improvements over an already flashed ecu.

Make a backup of the Cobb ROM and then edit either off of the Cobb map, or start with a stock ROM with the same ecu id number. As long as you end up reflashing back the original Cobb ROM in the end, the AP won't even know the difference. I've done this numerous times.

Hit me up if you have any other questions. :)

Its not that cobb maps suck, they are safe, VERY VERY VERY safe.

I was actually referring to a few other things, not their safety level. For starters (at least with the 02-05 WRX), they still run the erratic OEM ignition correction map. This makes matching up datalogs to the map a huge PITA. Safety can be even further improved by increasing KC and reducing base ignition timing. Most "good" maps I've seen have their ignition correction tables setup in organized chunks.

They could also improve on their OL/CL delays and don't even touch any of the turbo dynamics. Change these, and you'll end up with an even smoother power delivery with quicker spool.

I got sick of borrowing your cable all the time, so I picked one up a few weeks ago, hehehe.

I also have a new basemap that I finished up the other night and will probably start testing/refining it tomorrow. It's going to be a 17psi (2.0L stg2+ map, and I intend to work out 17.5 and 18psi mappings also -- the main theme with these is that they will all be based off of the same WG arm preload.

I've got both stg1 and 2 maps for the '06. Right now they are both generic basemaps that I could certainly message.

Well right now I'm working on 3 different base maps ranging from 17 - 18 psi. From there I have a better starting point to adjust for varying mods, safety/performance ratio, etc. As it stands right now, my 17psi map (even in it's early stages of development) is the smoothest map I've driven yet. But it also has broken all of my max load and g/s MAF readings -- all while showing no signs of knock. :)

Since I have a 2.0L stg2 car with a few extras, I have the most knowledge with this type of tune since I've spent a lot of time experimenting. Once I'm done with these sets of maps, it is reasonably easy for me to setup the same thing for any year 02-05 WRX.

I can pretty much assume that you won't have any troubles catching on to this very quickly. Most of the maps in Enginuity have very similar names to what is in Protuner.

My new 17psi stg2 map is coming along pretty nicely. I need to tweak some stuff to hopefully improve the low-end. Otherwise, power delivery feels VERY smooth so far. w00t!

yeah Nuke Thanks for the new map. Much better and acceleration and pulls hard for a stage 1. I think the reason why I wasn't hitting 14psi is the BOV. Its one of those HKS_S!=)

Well, if I wasn't in the middle of moving I would be able to help ya out. Right now my wbo2 and cables are in storage, so it will be a week or 2 before I get everything unpacked. So ya, a stg1 wrx is a pretty basic map. There is just a bump in boost and it will lean out the afr to around 11:1 or so.

The main thing you'll notice with a stage 1 flash is the improved driveability of the car. It won't be as jerky and hesitant as the stock mapping. Also, there will be a bump in low and midrange torque.

The real fun happens when you get a turboback exhaust and a stage 2 reflash.

    Ditto.

The stock map blows. It almost killed me it was so weak off of idle. You'd pull out in traffic and wait for the turbo to come to life while waiting for an Amish carriage to rear end you.

A Stage I map will ramp up the boost at lower rpms, increasing torque. Driveability will be much improved. You can short shift under 3k and not even notice it.

That said, going to Stage II with a full exhaust will make it jerky again. But the difference at WOT is huge.

I've still got my stock '02 Forester if you're interested. I've got my I-Speed flash and a spare ECU with the stock flash for you to toy with. Let me know if you're interested. I wouldn't mind seeing what you can do compared to I-Speed's year plus of work. :)

I'll tell you Tuesday...got a head gasket that's been a little teary-eyed. I'm getting 'er buttoned up while she's still under warranty.

It shouldn't matter too much, but it probably depends on what happened. If you're just plain messing up your timing/fuel settings and end up screwing up the engine, I could see a problem. Otherwise, it shouldn't matter if it's unrelated.

    Got an example?
