So I went to check / top off my oil in my car yesterday and I noticed an orange oil like film @ the oil cap area of the car. Is this due to moisture in the oil? The oil (AMSoil) only has 1500 miles on it. I did not do the oil change, White Bear did... due to my oil filter FAIL. Anyways, is the oil ok to leave in, or should I change it? What could have caused this orange color?

I had the same thing in my WRX over the summer. Although the film was a really light brown color. I think it's due to moisture from short trippin so much. Maybe someone else can chime in that knows for sure.

yeah, I seem to remember that white oil means moisture. I was thinking maybe this was similar.

No, I use a pureolator pure 1 oil filter.

Yes white foamy oil is moisture buildup from the engine not getting warm enough to evaporate it. A good hearty drive should help

Its just too cold for it to evaporate, even the tribeca has this film, and it gets driven a minimum of 60 miles a day.

In my experience, this means that you have coolant in the oil.

Its not the oil, its just in the fill-tube.

This may be due to my new to suby-ness, I am used to having a head under the filler, but I would think that would mean it was in the oil too.

Cool, thanks guys. I was guessing it was similar to the white in the oil = water theory. I will leave it for now (won't change it early) and just check my oil when i change it to see if i notice anything out of wack.

Again, this is common - especially in winter. Moisture not evaporating. Nothing to worry about as long as its just in the cap or the top of the filler neck or on top of the dipstick.

This seems to happen alot more when you use your astro start and then go on a short trip like less then 15 miles or so... lots of cars at my work have this happen and we put in some oil treatment and run them for 10 min then drain and change oil and most of the moisture is gone dont let your car sit and idle for 20 then drive 5 miles dosent help! just my 2 cents tho..
