07 wrx with sti turbo, intercooler, ecu flashed and dyno tuned. Bought car from dealership with 30,xxx miles. Car has been flawless so far... Upgraded exhaust to 3 inch from already 3inch dp back. Went catless and started to notice oil smell.

Installed my boost gauge and found out that I am over boosting to 20psi. I felt what seemed like boost cut and after doing more research I found out that catless exhausts on 07 wrx/sti's is a no no unless you install a restrictor pill?? Funny thing? It looks like I am missing my stock boost solenoid.... Scratch that, it appears to have been upgraded? I found it moved to the top of the intake. Also found out that stock boost for the sti is 8-12psi according to cobbtuning.

Has anyone installed these restrictor pills?
Is there anything else I should be worried about?
Does it matter where I install this restrictor pill in relation to the hose?

Here is a pic of where the stock one should be. Followed the wires and found the next picture.

This is what I assume is the boost solenoid. Unsure wether it is upgraded or not. Anyone know??

    But youre not stock

    Catless will stink

No boost pill with 3 ports like that gm boost solenoid

Now how sure are you that you werent tunrd for that boost level?
And also its been cold lately. boost will be a little bit higher

That's a gm boost control solenoid. It is not a bleed type system like the stock one so you don't need a restrictor pill.

Do you know what engine management system it is currently running? I'm assuming a cobb accessport based on your mention of cobb.

It is possible that the tune is set to 20 psi. Actually, it's likely. Especially if it was dyno tuned.

the doctor is in... you'll be right as rain very soon.
btw your car had a restrictor pill stock, the turbo + solenoid made that obsolete. i'm assuming you purchased a modified car.
trust the Nuke, Luke. let go of your feelings...

I would suggest letting Nuke, Bullwinkle, or one of the other very qualified tuners in the cities area retune your car. Just so that you know for sure your car is tuned properly for the mods you have. You never know what was actually done to the car, and who tuned it last and on what gas.

If I buy a modded car, tuning is always a concern of mine regardless of who owned it before. The cost of a tune, is cheaper then possibly needed a motor down the road, in my opinion.

Much appreciate all the info, I have talked with Nuke briefly about a tune. Lookin to get some other upgrades installed just before a tune.

up, headers, and apparently a new rear strut. I felt some slight wobble and it was confirmed today on our drive to the Lion's Den. Also have a tial wastegate that I would like to throw on but more work to be done before that. Saving up for a fmic set up as well.

Thanks, I bought an oem replacement for the rest of winter. I will upgrade this summer. I was surprised how ridiculous it was to get to that sucker.... Got it done though.
I had koni on my older car and loved them as well. Intrax lowering springs (anyone remember those) were a great fit with out being too bouncy.
Of course now I have a misfire... Plugs probably. Will be checking those on Wednesday.

I had Koni Adjustable struts, and prodrive red springs, with some whiteline sway bars. Car handled like a dream and rode much better then stock in my opinion.
