I was driving a couple days ago and noticed my Hot/Cold gauge was all the way up at Hot, needless to say I went right back home and shut the car off to let it cool down, I've driven it a couple times since then to get to school and as the car heats up the gauge slowly rises to the very top. Could this be a coolant issue? Sensor issue? Thanks.
What year make and model? HELP ME HELP YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I see a 2.5RS in your avatar, if its a 98, its head gaskets, no doubt about it. If its a 99-01, its still probably head gaskets.
I had to do some digging...(seriously guys? you cant just provide the ****ing YEAR?) but its a 98 RS, I'll bet carl's ***** its head gaskets.
**** me sorry about that yeah its a 98 RS, hmm damn that's worse than I figure I thought it was just a coolant or sensor issue.
are you losing coolant from anywhere? Pop the lid on your overflow, if its black/brown, and oilystinky in there, its head gaskets. ALSO! how many miles do you have on this car?
What do you think are short drives ok? (3-5 minutes to school) or should I not drive it at all for now
as long as it doesnt get too hot, you should be okay, but if it gets anywhere near the H on the gauge I wouldnt drive it.
alright **** I'll start looking into it, thanks, I found a DIY maybe just maybe I can manage to replace the gaskets in my buddy's garage.
hmm damn again. Well if anyone knows of a DIY for a DOHC 2.5rs I'd appreciate it, I found a SOHC DIY where the engine is already out but I'd like to see if it can be done without doing so.
yeah from what I've read it's possible to do a DOHC without taking it out, just disconnecting the motor mounts and jacking it up in the engine bay.
I wouldn't want to be swearing a storm up being cramped for space doing it in the car when you should be able to have the motor on a stand in a little over an hour without help.
Blown headgaskets is a good excuse to freshen up the engine with new seals and inspect wear and tear on idlers and the timing belt.
A mechanic my friend worked with did so many of them in the car that he actually became quite proficient at it.
All in all I'd like to take the motor out it would just make things easier, and freshen it up like Snowbum said, my big problem now is time and not having a car to get from school to home...ugh
