Hey, So I have an 05. I drive it through the winter. There are some chips on the roof (right above the windshield) that have begun to bubble a little (half the size of a dime). Does anyone have advice on getting rid of the rust? DIY? Place to get it done? Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!
Pics would be a good start. I would for sure attempt to get it fixed before it becomes a major problem.
Is it next to the molding around the windsheild? If so it could very well be from a poor job of windsheild replacement. I've seen many instances of someone gauging the paint and a few years later rust shows up. By the time you see the rust, it is through the sheetmetal and a serious pain to fix. Even if if its not from a windsheild replacement, bubbles are typically through the metal on 18 GA. steel. The proper way to fix it is to remove the area, patch it in, then blend the paint on the roof.
I had bubbling all up the A pillars and all through the top of the windshield; I used a angle grinder to get it down to bare metal, sanded the remaining rust out, and put in icing (like bondo but for thin coats), sand, sand, sand, wet sand, sand, sand and layed acid etch primer on top followed by more high grit wet sanding. You can't tell where any of the bubbling or rust was by feeling it.
