If you were the proud owner of a fresh set of recently sandblasted rear trailing arms, and were considering what kind of new coating to go with, would you go with paint or powdercoat ? I have the trailing arms and bushings pictured, but didn't go with the pads or fender braces. Stuart.
I have powdercoated rims. To me the powdercoating is just as bad as paint. Chips very easy and costs quite a bit more. Scratches even easier which is sad when you rotate your tires about 5 times a year. Velvet covered tire wrenches!!FTW! I'd go Rhino lining...hahaha...spray on rubber. WERD
I suspect that as durable as Rhinolining is, it may cause binding issues with the parts that contact the bushings. Stuart.
So do I then paint or powder coat the parts that don't get the rubber treatment ? I suspect that a single type of coating will be best. Let's not over-complicate matters. Stuart.
Are you serious??? I powdercoated my winter rims and after two winters on them they don't have a single scratch anywhere. I have purposely tried to scratch them with a screwdriver and it barely leaves a mark! Same with my intake manifold; its been on and off the car numerous times, its had oil, gasoline, power steering fluid, brake fluid spilled on it, its been hit my tools, had the IC dragged over it, it has lines rubbing on it, and that also doesn't have a single scratch on it! Did you do the powdercoating yourself or something? Needless to say my vote goes to powdercoating. I paid $40 for my intake manifold and $90 for all 4 rims on my car. The results:
yeah i was gonna ask the same thing.. powdercoating is supposed to be strong and last alot longer then paint

look in your local phone directory or hit up dexonline.com and search for powder coating. I used to go to this little shop in Blaine off hwy 65 and they did good work, i had a set of valve covers done for $45
Powdercoated by whom? I've got nine powdercoated rims, done by Gauthier Industries down in Rochester, and because the "extra" wheel had fubar'ed lug holes (got it from a junkyard and didn't inspect it closely beforehand), I used it to test how tough powdercoating was. I beat on it with a hammer. I stabbed it with a knife. I chopped it with a knife. I ground it with a file. And I sawed it with a pruning saw. Then I took a picture of it (it's a poor picture, but lemme know if you want to see the actual wheel. Or do another test (I haven't tried shooting it with a gun yet)). That powdercoating sh1t is tough as hell. It does NOT chip off. It's just plastic, so obviously when you take a file or saw to it, little plastic shavings are going to be ground off, and there will be little dents where you stab it with a knife.
Here is the deal since everyone has got the panties in a bunch. I was under the impression that my Rota GRA's are powdercoated but obviously I was mistaken, because it is nearly impossible to touch them and not remove some color. And beings you guys are like an info-mercial for powdercoating, I'll just say Stuart, buddy i'm sorry...my rims are probably just painted and I don't really know what I'm talking about.:biggrin: Please accept my apology! I did get a price on doing my four stock rims at a powdercoating place and he said he could do it for $350 for all four including sandblasting! It's reasonably priced and looks good as h3ll...I say go for it. Btw:Nice pics!:yumyum:
if your rotas came "stock" that color from whoever they are painted. most aftermarket rims are painted not powdercoated to save weight and money.
