I have both a mac and a pc and I'm running synergy on them so I can control them both with the same keyboard and mouse. It's pretty nice, like dual monitors across two machines though.

Well...I have a Linux box, a Mac PowerBook G4, and a Windows gaming box. Out of all, I like my Mac the best for daily use.

MAC + Parallels = all three OS choices. I have a PC, Dell Laptop, and a G5. The only reason I don't use the Mac for day to day is that it isn't Duo Core. So no Parallels. My next mac will be my day to day machine. Probably a laptop. I run SIP based VOIP systems and the ability to SSH from the terminal is nice. Oh yeah, no viruses. Windows? Sure go virtual, when it craps out, start a new virtual PC and don't lose your data.

Oh, and one last thing... Resale Value!!! A Mac will hold it's value. I sold a dual processor 450 mhz machine about a year ago for $250 bucks. That thing was probably 7+ years old. It was still faster with OSX than my old AMD 1.8 GHz PC with Windows. Apple has always been a superior hardware company. Look at all the sucess with the Ipod. Microsoft Zune flopped.

Not after the resale comment. ;) Seriously, how much? PM me. I don't want to hijack a thread. Back to the PC bashing!!! Windows is familiar, learn something new - get a Mac or go Linux. There are so many free software titles out there.

i gotta go windows as well. even though my main comp. is a mac laptop, its mainly cuz my college kept shoving MAC superiority down my throat like every day for months and kept claiming that everything would run on mac in the future. but i dont really like them. depends what your using it for though i guess.

I have a desktop PC and a macbook. I like the *nix feel of OSX and its ease of use, but I still use my pc for a quite a bit (visual studio).

I only run linux for servers, it just isn't a mature desktop OS yet.

Sure, Mac OS is easier to use. However, mac computers don't have any of the following:

    1) Upgradability.
    2) Good hardware support (no, I don't want to go to that f'ing Mac store at the mall).
    3) Enterprise functionality (sorry, you can't beat AD at this time).
    4) Support for most video games.

    Plus, there's this.

    1) Macs are plenty upgradeable. Processors, Ram, Video cards, Hard drives, disk drives, what more do you want?

    2) Hardware support? in what sense? the *nix core is incredibly adaptable to hardware and has a HUGE library built in drivers. i don't think i've loaded a single driver for the last year.

    3) They're working on it... you can't deny that the XServes are very nice peices of hardware http://www.apple.com/xserve/

    4) True, but again, that is coming around as the market grows, and thanks to the fact they've switched over to intel processors, porting the game to OS X will be a much faster, easier task.

    1) Have you ever tried replacing a hard drive on a Macbook?

    2) Hardware support in the sense of warranty work when it fails. Apple's phone support is very good, their onsite tech-support is horrific.

    3) I would call the x-serv passable. Maybe if it could integrate with additional x-serv's, propagate group policy, and provide remote software installations...we might consider using it. If we had all Macs.

    4) I do understand the draw of bootcamp in certain situation (yes, the market is going to virtual PC soon here). I don't, however, understand why I would buy a Mac, which are considerably more expensive, so I can install my PC OS in order to play video games.

Mac is the only way to go. I use to have a super powerful alienware
laptop and had nothing but problems with it. Switched to a mac
and never get viruses or have problems. I'm also a little bias because i'm a graphic designer and the graphics programs work better with mac. IMO.

macs don't run photoshop any better or worse than a PC. Its the same damn program. I hate it when people in the design field make that argument. most designers seem to prefer macs because they're completely computer illiterate and like stylish objects.

I am typting this on a macbook running windows. I have 2 linux PCs, 2 PC laptops and one Mac laptop (for school). Theres nothing wrong with the Mac, but it is expensive if you go retarded for buying crap you'll never need.

I bought a mac becuase i cannot stand windows or microsoft and essentially never have had a good linux laptop yet. I'll be in a cold grave before I buy vista.

I've used PC's all my life and i'm a goddamn commie pinko liberal gay spendocrat.

I do linux (used to do sco unix and novell for fun) but for sure I am a windows guy from about 3.5 on. People that learn about computers in college seem to like macs and unfortunity then get afraid of PCs. I love that Mac, which spent so much time marketing their chipset, is now a linux box. Really there is no need for polorizing anymore, its just a different OS, same basic hardware. I tend to think of Mac as noobified unix to the max. My mother is a very big mac user and stays way up on technology and has the latest and greatest notebook, and uses xp inside for certain apps but I can always see that their software is effective and simple. I like to be able to do it all, to get into the grit of the software. Im also a gamer, and all gamers have an xp box. VMware is ftw in firing off linux utils. I tend to have 2 main xp boxes in my home office room (main one, and my hosting box for media and messaging, vmware etc, an xp notebook, a media center pc in the kitchen, and my xbox 360 at the widescreen.

oh, and I run vista and office 2007 at work and I like it a lot. run vmware sessions of xp on the box too. helps its a dual core 2.4 with 2gb of ram(soon to be 4) though. I think vista is getting its typical OMG OMG im not switching, but i think it will transition faster than any previous. The comecial with the matrix dude standing between the mac and vista guys I love and we talk about a lot at work. Personaly, I would not want another computer talking to me withought permission, thats just how I am. I have some powerful 3rd party apps that vista complains about at times, but I love that it loads it up into a whole other instance of vista basicaly to keep it fully seperate.

    1) Yes, and i'll give you that. it sucks. but that's a laptop, and it's not meant to have consumer access. they sacrificed that aspect to get it down into the form factor that it is. many laptops are difficult to replace hard drives in. ever been inside one of those small factor vios? have you ever replaced the hard drive on a G5? i don't think I've installed one easier. got to the mounting slot using my bare hands, and all i had to do was screw on 4 nubs to the new hd, and slide it in.

    2) i've never dealt with onsite warranty. i didn't know they offered it. must be a corporate thing. but the few dealings with apple when it came to warranty work, they were more than helpful. I've dropped off a laptop at their apple store, and they were cool enough to drop ship it back to me direct within the week. the only other one i had problems with was another laptop that had a known recall on it. they sent the box to my door with all the packaging and return label inside it. just put the laptop in the box, slapped the label on it, and told ups to come and pick it up the next day. again, back within the week, and they replaced the logic board on that one. The academic institution i worked in, we had a guy who went through a basic apple tech program, and they blessed him with the ability to order parts and request return packages all under warranty work. only cost around $3-500 for the certification.

    3) I haven't been able to work with one yet, but i understand they do have these functions available. you just have to inform them of each other's presence in the management software.

    4) The beauty of buying a mac now is that they can do everything a PC can, and have less problems doing it. having a single company that produces and authorizes the default hardware that they come with, and has a strong hand in writing the drivers for it yields an incredibly idiot proof and reliable system.
True, you'll pay a little more, but you do get more in return, more uptime.
i say this more for the non-professionals, but it is true across the board. how many times have you had that stupid corrupt driver or lost DLL file floating around in your system?

i think its funny that if Macs are so good, then why do most people need to install parallels or bootcamp so that they can run windows? its like...why not just get a PC and download Itunes? thats about all that mac has going for it anyway.
