Ok.. let the arguments begin I am looking at the Sprint Mogul... some Questions.. 1. What is a good PDA phone... 2. Which service provider is best coverage in more rural areas?? 3. General costs for services (dont need the internet service) just wifi is enough Keep in mind that I am mainly after a PDA to use for a phone, I want windows based, will turn it into a gps, dont want to pay internet fees each month, and want fairly good pricing plans... so all you experts or phone guys give me your sales speeches....
I have heard good things about the blackbarry. As far as rural coverage goes, I had good coverage with cingular up here in perham, but this is not there home area so I got booted off there plan. the first sprint phone I had sucked here but the new ones we have work really well. Theres my 47 cents.
I have been holding off on hacking mine (although I just got it last week) until tomorrows announcement. I'm hoping for a nice update.

Remember one of the first and important things you asked about, rural area coverage... Anything that doesn't cover your area you use it most is just an expensive paper-weight! IMHO Verizon is gonna have the best rural coverage but also higher priced plan cost... T-Mobile and Cingular use the same technology and will have similar coverage areas since they roam off of most of the same carriers including a bit off each other. T-Mobile having the least expensive rates for minutes and Cingular offerring a few more data devices and 3G in some areas. Sprint also offers analog/decent rural coverage like Verizon but seem to have some of the worst customer service in the industry... Decide on coverage and service first before deciding on your devices! Good luck, feel free to ask for any advice as I work in the industry! -Marc

yep, probably new ipods and a big update for the iphone. I hope they will figure out the flash for it and make it that you can take videos
sorry I dont have $600 to spend on a phone.. I already have a 60Gb video ipod so dont need a music player.... I had sprint 4yrs ago, wasnt the greatest but never really had any issues either, have had Nextel for the last 3.5yrs and NOT ONE complaint... Sprints coverage looks good in my 'Rural' area... by rural I meant not in MSP... yeah their customer service sucks but so does most big companies... its the local stores that make or break it for me, how they handle my issues etc.... Sprint is looking good.... but still not sold...
The Mogul is what I should be receiving in a few days; after playing with the PPC6700, I concluded I like the SmartPC features and works well with our needs. Its great for my wife's homework, ms excel, word, power point, and taking notes. I had considered a PDA or Blackberry, but its too formal for me, wanted some thing not too geeky, but yet professional looking. The mogul will work great for when I'm oncall, just use it as a modem and I can be almost anywhere. LOL The only draw back about these are they do not support media messaging, but I have found out some people have hacked it, so another words the feature is not supported.
its not about music on the iphone. Its overall performance is amazing, super easy to use and internet on it is super cool, i even like it more than on a real computer,.
iphone is off the books for me.... Mogul is my number 1 choice... Chuanpreza recommended that opne as he has it and loves it and he has sprint too....
you should keep in mind that with unsecured wifi phones, you're risking the chance of someone hacking into your phone when connected.
I would think this is the least he should really worry about. I would be worried about a phone running windows mobile. I had a phone that had windows mobile and it was a typical windows nightmare!
don't forget that the PDA phones are on a little different network, as far as general networks go I have a AT&T and a verizon phone, the AT&T by far has better coverage. In Wisconsin (I go to the Turtle Lake area alot), I have no access to my voice mails on the verizon phone.
i have a palm treo 700wx on the sprint SERO plan that INCLUDES internet love the phone and tether it to my laptop to share the internet so i have no more internet bill at home... i get 500 minutes, unlimited data, and my insurance on my phone for less than 42 dollars
i've sold for verizon and now work at att. I can honestly say the reception in places i frequent is better with my att than it was with verizon. At my parent's house in andover, My verizon was spotty at best in my room, my att was flawless. each carrier gives you a test run, so try some out and compare for yourself. Att will give you 30 days and i think verizon will too. the other 2 are 2 weeks. As for phones with the features you want, right now only 2 phones in att's lineup have wifi; the iPhone and 8525. We will be releasing the update to the blackberry 8800 with an 8820 that will have wifi, the 8525 is also being replaced by another model soon with the same features. Each of these phones need to have an unlimited data plan attached, so prepare to spend $30-$40 more for unlimited data on top of your voice plan. It makes no sense buying a SmartPhone and not getting internet access. Just like using a normal PC these days w/o internet makes it a pretty useless device. If you really don't want to spend the extra for the data plan, get a regular phone and a normal PDA device since a Smartphone w/o data will make use of maybe 10% of its features. GPS is available on any of my PDA's and even some regular flip models. This is "real" gps sold by a company who helped build the GPS system for nasa back in the day and is more up to date and accurate than a lot of built in Navi units in cars. you'll need a GPS receiver that we sell for $99 (unless you get a Blackberry 8800 which has one built in) to make use of the GPS. It is $10/ month for unlimited use and since it uses a lot of data, you will need the unlimited data plan that the PDA requires or your bill will be outlandishly high.
