Let me first apologize as I'm sure this topic has been discussed many times over and my point is by no means to drudge up a dead horse. However I'm faced with a problem. I'm fairly new to STi's just picking up my stock '05 for a summer car a month or so ago. My goal is to add a few parts and gain a little horsepower here and there. I'd like to start with a catback just to gain a little more tone to my exhaust. Obviously everyone has a varrying opinion on this topic but a local shop in plymouth has a Perrin catback sport available for a decent price and I'm thinking of adding it. However - I can't seem to find any audio/video on the tone of it. My only other option is to order something and either throw it on myself or pay a shop to do it. Any one have any advise on Perrin. I've heard a few grumblings here and there about some of their parts not matching up properly but that's about it. I'd appreciate anyones input on this topic. Thanks!
also, i dont recommend paying a shop for a cat-back. (sorry shop guys) it can be done in 30 min in your driveway.
I agree, my cat-back was put in in about 30 min. and was pretty easy to install(thanks ej22tim). you should be able to do it yourself.
You can go with any kinda catback you want... I picked up my catback for 200$ used and it sounds just like any other! Only tips i can give you is if your going for horsepower than spending the money will help, but if you just want some sound get the cheapy, every exhaust is almost the same theres only so much room under these bad boyz!
Thanks guys... that does help. I just figured I'd need a lift or something to easily get to installing it. I don't mind spending a little $$$ on a decent one but also don't wanna waste $100.00 to have it installed either. That's another grip towards a downpipe/AP. Thanks again!
Best thing to do is to decide what application you want. Do you want something that's really loud or do you want something that is quiet most of the time, but growls when you get on it? Do you want a full 3" exhaust, or will 2.5" cut it?
:+1: Think about if you really want more performance or you just want it to sound better. If you're going to be replacing the DP later, I think it'd be better just to save up for a whole new 3" TBE and do it in one swoop.
It can be done in your driveway! Aslong as you use the correct size wrenches and sockets. Don't round your bolts like I did hahahahhaha
The Perrin exhaust sounds good as does the Invidia. I have the SPT, as do a few others. It all depends on what you want, and how much your willing to spend.
I used to have BPM than perrin, than I switch to APS. I realize how sexy the APS sounds. I found my perfect tone. Never will switch again.
