Ok so im trying to figure out what its going to take to use an 01 RS 2.5 block in a 97 Outback... :eek4: Dont ask... So does anyone know: Will the 01 run on a 97 ECU? Are the harness' different? How?
If you are just gonna use the block, you dont need any sort of harness from the phaze 2 block. there are no special sensors that you will need, you are using your heads correct? One of the techs here did this to his own outback, he used a 2003 2.5 SOHC shortblock and bolted up his DOHC heads. It ran/runs great.
Well im in discussions of getting an 01 longblock... this would allow me to use these DOHC heads for one of my 22T blocks when i have money to build it... so no it would be a full SOHC 2.5 motor
the only thing I would worry about would be the cam sensors, but they are the same part number for DOHC to SOHC. Ide give it a shot. most things should be the same. Both have EGR?
Mine does for sure and im assuming this 01 does but i havent seen it yet. I cant imagine they would be too different ECU wise. Just wonder if the 3 harness connectors will match up from chassis to motor.
I think this may be semi-useful. there are a few posts about it, apparently if you swap all the sensors and everything it can work.
