This is by far the weirdest phone issue I've ever had...

It started about 45min ago. I got a call from a strange number; I didn't answer (never do for numbers I don't recognize) and just brushed it off as a wrong number. Then, I started to get a barrage of texts from random numbers. All of them along the lines of "yo dawd, y'd you change yo nmbr?!". Then more strange phone numbers start calling me. I start responding to the texts saying "someone is handing out the wrong number, this is not who you're trying to contact". I just thought someone made an honest mistake when telling his/her friends their new phone number...whatever.

This is where it gets weird. All of these texts say that they are responding to a text sent from my number...only I didn't send it. So basically, what I've concluded from this is someone is texting and it's being sent from my number?

Anyone have any ideas? I called T-Mobile, and they have never heard of anything like this. They have no idea what to do! It's kind of funny right now, but I can only imagine it will get annoying soon :(

    Pretty easy to do actually:

    http://www.onlinetextmessage.com/tmobile-text-message.php

    Someone is messing with you.

    edit:

Well maybe not Tmobile's site, since it wants your email address. There are other sites out there you can send txt messages and the "From" field you can enter in any cell number you want.

Well if they are messing with me, they aren't having a whole lot of fun doing it. One is trying to help me figure it out and other have been pretty appologetic.

Just got off the phone with T-mobile. The only fix for it they have is to change my phone number :(

Hopefully it's someone messing with me and it stops soon.

On the other hand...do you think there's any chance I can get a free phone out of this?

But I don't even really know what to complain about! Is my inconvenience enough for a new phone?

    I'm not really being harassed.

    This is what's happening:
    - Some guy got a new phone # and sends a text out to his phone book alerting everyone
    - People in his phone book respond to said text message
    - I get these people responses instead of the original sender

I haven't had any calls/texts in the last hour or so though...so hopefully it was just a random occurence!

I've had weird things like that happen to me before as well. In my case, some lady kept trying to call her friend and it would make my phone ring. After like the 3rd call, I made her repeat the number that she just called off of her phone -- and it wasn't mine.

Back when I was a kid, I could make one of the phones ring in the bar at the Eagle's Club (similar place to the VFW) by simply hitting the hang up button 3 times in a row really fast on the phone receiver. lol.

yeah, I could make the phones ring at the state fair, because I knew
    some kind of test number.

watching ppl pick-up a phone with no one one the other side was a gas.

Yes, the test number. I knew that when I was a kid. I remember if it ended in a 0, it was a normal ring. If it ended in a 5, it would be the dual (party) ring.

I've actually practiced dialing entire numbers that way. Its how old rotary-style phones actually work, and it used to be a direct input to old style switching stations.

I apparently have way too much time on my hands. lol War Games just made me want to be a phreaker when I was young. Some of you will recall what I mean. hahaaha blue box ftw.

HA!!!! Sprint customer service just called (I used to have Sprint and had a huge falling out with them because they were horrible to me). Anyway, the lady asks if I was Quincy (the guy all these people were trying to contact). I said no, and she quickly apologizes and tries to hang up! I stop with a "hollllllld on a second".

She kept trying to get me off the line and I kept asking her wtf was going on. Finally she told me that they made a mistake and tried to give this guy (who was changing his number) my phone number!!!!

    Sprint sucks!!!...even when I don't have them!
