My wife and I got a Nikon d3000 with 18-55mm and 55-200mm lens for xmas! Looks like I'm about to learn a new hobby!
My new L is my baby now. its so sharp and the constant F4 through the entire focal length is hotness!
Well I picked up some new gear the other day. I am planning a long trip out west and I want to try my hand at some landscape PhotoGing. The research I have done so far has given me that idea that one of my huge issues in the past with landscape photography is the exposure balance between the background and foreground. So I picked up this: a Chokin P series filter holder, 58mm adapter ring, and a Chokin Graduated ND filter (0.6 / 2 stop) filter. View attachment 22018 As an example here is a normal shot of the window blinds View attachment 22020 Here is a follow up using the new filter setup View attachment 22019 These are the first picture I have taken with this setup. I am sure that there is quite the learning curve involved with this stuff, but I am looking forward to it.
Yea i shot OFR last year with on the 70-200 F4L on my camera... Loved it wish it were mine. But at Nemadji I'll run my 17-85 believe its a F3.5-5 IS with a polarizer or a Grad ND
I'm thinking of getting rid of my D70 and D40x and get a Canon body and some lenses. I have a Tokina 12-24, Tamron 70-300 bim with macro, Nikkor 50mm prime, and a Nikkor 18-85 afs.
I was just informed today that I'm doing a wedding with my friend.. We're both seniors in high school, so we're frantically going out and figuring out how to do them. We usually do senior pics but I guess we're stepping up. My set up as of right now: Canon 50D 28-135mm f3.5 (kit) 50mm f1.8 Batter Grip Some generic flash 18-300mm f3.5 (School) 70-200 f2.8 (School) Tomorrow hopefully an 18mm f2.8
Are there any good sites that compare the T2i to the xxD Series? (this is a start) http://www.cameralabs.com/reviews/Canon_EOS_550D_Rebel_T2i/verdict.shtml
I have not looked at this site recently, but when I was researching my camera i went to www.dpreview.com lots of good reviews and camera breakdowns on that site.
+1 for Dpreviews.com Basically depends on your budget and interest/lack of interest in video recording capabilities. If low cost and video is more important that photo go with T2i; if bigger budget and still want video with better camera go with 7D or 50D. If smaller budget but want better camera & no interest in video go with 40D over T2i. My 0.02
I was hoping the T2i would be comparable to the 50D. From what I've read, it has a lot of the features of a 7D. That's why I was looking at it. If I switch from Nikon to Canon, I'm gonna needs lenses too...
Well... I decided to sell all my Nikon camera equipment. Gonna post up a for sale thread. I'm going to get the Canon 50d and 24-105 L lens.
Congrats!! Good move! I am too looking at buying a 50D for my wife (I'll be hijacking that one frequently  ), however after that not likely to afford L glass anytime soon... I too have been looking at the 24-105 too, as a potential cheaper and lighter alternative to the 24-70 f/2.8 L i crave... Let me know how you like the 24-105 though!
I might take you up on that. I chatted up Carl tonite for some info. He mentioned that I should get a prime lens (50mm) for a walk around play lens. Cheap enough and abundant. I'm going to try to source one tomorrow. If not, can we meet up in the evening? I'll only need it until Wednesday night. I can drop it off after I'm done. (pm'ing after this)
I've got a 50mm 1.8 lens that you could borrow for a couple days, although i'm located in Maple Grove. Great lens and can't say enough about it. And for a sub $100 lens might as well have 1 in the bag. Enjoy the new gear.
It's all about the glass. I want a really nice lens and a decent body to go with it. All the people I know and trust have Canons. All the pictures printed in the stores are from Canons. The pro world seems to be Canon. The sporting world seems to be Nikon. I go to almost no sporting events during the year, let alone photograph them. I'm gonna get a tripod and start taking better quality shots.
I picked up a 50mm 1.8 tonite at Natcam. That should work as a nice backup lens. I'll likely be keeping it on the 30d when I get the 50d later.
Nice, sounds like you're jumping into the Canon world in a big way. Congrats on the new gear. Would love to upgrade myself but currently loving my Xsi and have yet to reach its full potential.
Everything I read and am told is that it's not the body, its all in the lens and you don't need more that 8.2mp to print 10x12 pictures. So... I'll start with a basic body (30d) and move onto the 50d when I can afford it. I'm getting the 24-105 L glass for my good lens. I'll probably try to find a fisheye sometime as well.
Agreed. Glass is where its at but my dads 30D is noticeably faster than my Xsi which is a feature that i'd like in my next body. But along with the solid/hefty body of the D series come durability. Although i've never had a problem with my Xsi and it durability and the light weight allows for ease when shooting handheld for long periods of time. From the little time i've had with my dads L 100-400mm lens it was just amazing the clarity it gave. Great choice on the 24-105, great walk about lens with more range than most walk arounds.
I think the lens quality is pretty much the same. The biggest difference in my opinion is the price when you get into the really expensive lenses. kind of unrelated, but do canon DSLRs do auto iso in aperture priority? My pooptastic nikon doesn't and it pisses me off.
my renewed frustration led me to a feature that does what I want. I can't select auto ISO, but I can have it bump up the ISO (to a configurable maximum) if the shutter speed drops below a certain point.
my d200 costed less than a new d5000....that was when bestbuy had them for sale for $600 about a year ago..best deal ever!
Done deal... I picked up a Canon 40D body, 430ex flash, Canon 50mm 1.4, Canon 70-200 F/4L with battery/charger for $1150.
Holy crap! Where'd you snag that deal? Craigslist? Congrats! Also how can you veriphy the # of clicks?
^^^Cool, thanks! 50D w/ EF 28-135mm on the way + B+W UV filter!!! I am going to sell the kit lenses from my Xs and am planning on replacing them with EF 50mm f/1.4 and a EF 70-200mm f/4... FTW!!!
Just ordered the 24-105 f/4L. Will have it on Wednesday! I'm officially done buying camera crap for 5-7 years...
thats what i tell myself everytime i buy something...but when i see some super good deals...its really hard to pass it up..haha
more details please!!! what did you end up getting? Nevermind.... helps if I could read two post previous..
24-105 F/4L At first glance, it has the same sharpness as my prime. If I knew how to use it, I'd probably have better results. It's a nice hefty lens. It has image stabilization. I just need a cheat sheet on what settings to use (or start with) in whatever situation (dark, light, moving, shady, indoors). One thing to note, Canon lenses are fast to focus compared to Nikon. And they are almost completely silent as well. Got two new Canon batteries, shipped... each $13. Thinking about a grip, not sure I want the extra weight and height. Once the payment clears for the credit card, I might go get a Manfrotto 190 pro tripod with a Grip head. (so much for waiting 5-7 years for more crap)
