all this ticket crap makes me giggle.

    Military ID's FTW

Now I just need to wait another 2 months so I can get my car out of storage in MN and bring it to my station. Teh Gheyness.

This is not a consitutional issue.
States are given a very wide latitude when it comes to "safety" on the roads. (Autos are not given quite the same protection as homes either).
Because tint can be given a traffic safety bent (impares your ability to see out of it) tint regulations will never be declared unconsitutional.
Auto regulations have no requirment to create for you a zone where you can expect privacy. (Which is what i think you're implying)

either way it comes down to the fact that safety of the officers excuse is BS.... I can see how it may seem like that.. but really... if someone is gonna shoot you they will shoot you....

I aint implying nothing just relaying what I was told by the guy who does it for a living and is leading the fight against it... I am too tired and lazy to type all the stuff out tonight... maybe never.. I got my windows tinted.. decided to go 50% on the front... hell I ran 35% for 4yrs on my wrx and NEVER got questioned once even with being pulled over twice...

Here's what I know. The officers genuinely see an officer safety issue there.
I don't know how legitmate it is, but they feel like there is one and that is why they ticket on it and support stronger tint laws.
I'm sure they'd love to change the law RE:suvs and vans too.
Anbd I can see why, pulling people over is somewhat dangerious because you just don't know who is behind the wheel. Beinga ble to see where the driver's hands are helps lower the adrenaline a bit.
I don't tint my windows partially because I don't want to impair my ability to see out (even a little) and partially because should I get pulled over I want the officer to be as relaxed as possible (and reduce the likelyhood for a ticket).

that's what those little buttons are ont eh door.. you push them and windows wind down.... yes I wound down all my windows at 1:30am in winter just to make it easier for the trooper...

like I said I can see their point... but if they have an issue they can tell the person to wind down their windows front and rear.... why make the majority suffer because of a few dumb-asses.. kinda like the illegal immigration issues.. most people slander all mexicans cause of a few... I have some good friends who are mexican heritage and are good honest hard working LEGAL residents/citizens.... off topic yes but illustrates the absurdity of blanket rules

On a different note, have you heard of many people getting in serious federal trouble from being catless? I've considered getting a cat since I have to be a bit rich at idle due to my cams. There are some nice metal substrate cats on the market now. Random Technologies had the stranglehold on the market for a long time and were getting $400 for the damn things. I've found them for $100 lately and will flow MUCH better than a ceramic substrate cat.

I have not heard of people in Mn getting in trouble yet.
All I know is that some officers now know what it smells like and will go to the trouble to make sure its legit. Now these particular officers I know of don't pull people over much, so its very likely they haven't caught anyone. Still not worth the risk IMHO. You don't want to be the first do you?

not to hijack your thread here but i just got pulled over today also for tint in brooklyn park. Lucky for me the cop was pretty cool, let me off with a warning. needless to say tints coming off tomorrow. Im tired of having the law on my ass for it. Also it seems they have been cracking down lately on tint.

yea there's a few nice cops out there. The guy that pulled me over told me about the whole dark window not being able to see the person thing and that it's always also a good way to catch people for ddubs. overall it went fairly well, but im not going to push my luck any farther.

I did this today coming off of stinson blvd onto 35w north. not as much thru traffic cuz of the bridge being down. only residents really drive from the university area on that part of the freeway. I was doing about 115 in the STi and realized I should probably cool it a bit. Perfect spot for it though!

The trooper was probably cool and realized that it was really the only place you could safely speed if not many people were around...

ok guys, i got pulled over yesterday for tinted window. i got a warning like couple days ago( sure its less than a week). and havent have time to take it off. Finally, i got a ticket for it. i dont know its a fix it or pay it ticket. all i have to do is go to the court.

Here is my question, ive already had 3 moving voilation tickets in this year. so i wonder will my window tint ticket will go under my driving record as a moving violation. Im worry because i cant get any more ticket, otherwise my lincese will be suspended.

IIRC Tom said $160-180 for sedans. But that does not include removal.

duh...josh! i used to live in Brooklyn park man...hahaha...i guess, i have to retint it ASAP..i bet that cop had no life, i think it was the same cop that pulled me over twice. One in New hope, and one by single creek. Doesnt Single creek considered in New hope or Minneapolis?

seriously, why cops always pull random cars over lately.

If it's a State Trooper, he has alot of jurisdiction...lol.

Like I said, get ahold of Tom.;)

I'll have them do mine from 35% to 50% when I get a chance. Plan to tear off the old stuff myself.

I was told the only person that can write you a prescription for window tint is an eye surgeon. I tried this route already with no luck

I went to the doctor, then the optomitrist, the gae up before going to an eye surgeon. Cost me about 60 bucks to get the run around.

It's called "Light sensitivity"...that's the condition that will get you a perscription for tint.

I know someone who has a prescription for window tint from his chiropractor. Never been checked by an officer but I assume it will be someday with 10% on his LGT wagon.

Nope, it's my brother so I know the situation well. His chiropractor is a good family friend, and he actually claims to get headaches from the bright sun, and does a good bit of driving, so the chiropractor wrote it up.

Again, not sure how well it would hold up, but I don't think they'll really check the source to ensure it was a certain type of doctor/surgeon/etc.

Well, what is cheaper? tint or tickets? take it off for the love of god and stop complaining. or at the very least take it off the front windows.

Three tickets? I'd consider taking it off and using the money you'd be spending on tickets to make your car more faster. Or fill a bath tub with it and roll around in it. Either way, EP cops wouldn't be ticketing you and taking all your monies.

Oh I'm not complaining about it, just venting. It's coming off wednesday...finally.

Edit- I'm not paying the ticket...no way. 5 minutes in front of the hearing officer will take care of that.

Oh- that cop is OFFICIALLY off my christmas list...no presents for him :)

what percent of tint do you have? i guess this cop is just trying to prove a point now, but he still sounds like a d-bag... i was thinking about tint, but the legal amount so i don't get hassled.
