Here is carwash info for you.

    More wash examples.

    An alternative to car washes

    Myths about Plasti Dip

    Fixing Plasti Dip

And the list keeps going. They have a ton of cars and examples of spraying cars. There are 2 or 3 threads on Plasti Dip on NASIOC. There are hundreds of Plasti Dip shops on Facebook that you can like and check out work.

I really suggest the DipYourCar.Com guys for products and info.

They also have a forum on that site.

There's an STI on iwsti.com that was coated in plasti dip for a couple of months. When removed it took a lot of the oem clear coat with it. I've seen a couple instances of this around the web.

^ I have only seen one instance, on iwsti. Also we have no idea how they applied it and what company/mixture of plasti dip they used. There are hundreds/thousands of cars that use the dipyourcar.com products with zero issues reported.

To follow up that point... i have my emblems done (cheap plastic chrome), front grill and have done work on other cars... including non-subaru cars. None have had any issues.

There's no doubt a bunch of people have had awesome results. However when something like this happens people should know. I believe Dip your Car offered the guy 3k in compensation as well.

I like this stuff but, not sure if I like it enough to put it on my nice cars. I did the header panel on my jeep and the stuff is way tougher than I thought it was going to be.

I read through the same or a similar thread on nabisco. My opinion is that the car's been regularly buffed for most of it's life, which is great. But he covered thin, brittle, possibly sun baked clear coat with thick (Relatively speaking)Plasti-Dip. So when he took it off, the plasti-dip won the "who's more adhesive" game.

I know a guy that did his whole Galant in Plasti-Dip and it looks great.

The clear coat issue comes from how you thin it. I personally am planning on doing my whole car as soon as the weather is nicer. I purchased the whole car kit and had them thin the dip for me.

    Can't wait to see it.

Depend on when you dip it, I may be willing to lend you a hand. I wouldn't mind learning a bit more about the process.... vs the emblems and rattle can stuff I have done. I really want to see their kit/sprayer in action.

Pictures!! I don't have any solid experience with Plasti-Dip, so I'm interested in how big of difference properly mixed paint makes.

Is that the kit that includes the paint gun?

yes. The kit includes the spray gun and the dip and the "prepper" and some microfiber clothes etc.

    https://www.dipyourcar.com/product.php?productid=46&cat=15&page=1

Here is the kit I have purchased. I talked with their customer service and they told me that the more coats I put on (evenly mind you), the more durable and easier it would be to come off and touch up if needed. That is the reason I went with the large car/extra coverage kit. Oh and I am doing camo green. Should look pretty good with the new wheels.

That's a pretty fair price for all that you get. I didn't know they made a gloss product though. I tried a quick Google search and couldn't really find any decent pictures of gloss plasti-dip. Unless this is considered to be their gloss mix.

In the second picture the door looks really uneven. Or is it just a shadow or reflection? It looks fine in the last picture, so maybe it's fine.

If you have a good feel for spraying paint this seems like a no brainer because last I checked I couldn't get my car painted for at least 10x that price.

The 2nd pic does look uneven. Difficult to tell but almost looks like an up and down spray pattern rather than a side to side.

Assuming that the BMW pictured is the gloss mix and the door isn't uneven I'd be all for dipping the Legacy!

I know the big benefit of Plasti-Dip is being able to spray right over existing paint/clear. But I wonder what difference (if any at all) it makes to sand it down and prime it beforehand. I would think it'd look even better? I'm not a paint guy so I don't know how this stuff works lol.

^if your going to sand and prime, finish it with a single stage paint.

What's the price comparison of a full car Plasti-Dip to a single stage paint? I would think Plasti-Dip is more forgiving in a less than ideal painting environment.

I wouldn't sand and prep like regular paint. Also, it defeats the purpose.

Jersey Dips posted two new gloss mixtures they're selling on their FB page.

Those are probably the best looking dip mixes I've seen. It looks like actual automotive paint, not Krylon.

Krylon and automotive paint look exactly the same if you don't operate rattle cans like a freaking goon and use proper techniques.

As things get hot in the bedroom she'll ask if you have a condom. You'll say, "Yeah babe. You want matte, or gloss tonight?"

They should sponsor the rally car is what they should do :)

Actually I work a lot with Graco ( paint not the baby stuff) Wagner, and Sata Spray with my pneumatic product line. I'm really interested in "application" aka spraying of this stuff. If it is consistency and viscosity is similar to most paints?

The RSVX is covered in black plasti-dip. It was applied too thin and i am now under the impression that it is perma-dipped. Guess that i will just need to learn to like it, unless i bust out the media blaster.

    What if you applied more?

Word on the street is the heavier coats you put on, the easier it is to remove.. Not sure if it would help, but who knows.

Yep, I read up on this stuff last night for a couple hours...intrigued. Apparently, if you have a thin spot that you think is going to be a bitch to get up, you simply overcoat the crap out of it. The thicker you lay it down, the easier it is to remove. They recommend about 6 coats for ease of removal.

They make this liquefying solution too. Granted it still requires spray, but it makes for a better finish. If you have a non-smooth surface it will show.

If it had an oem paint job, this paint is farr to chippy, I dont want to pull layers of it off. If I dipped it, I'd try to get as close to british racing green as possible.

I was the one that did your car. it looked a thousand times better after. And lets be honest. You cant polish that turd. That car looked like a pile before, and after the dip.

The body was SO rough, even if I applied 20 coats, it would have been permanent.

Why on earth would you want to plasti dip the undercarriage? That sounds like a rust disaster.

Lol, i wouldn't! But i would like to coat the bottom of both cars with the proper product.

Tony, i think that it looks great! Just have an issue with it being too thin. Nothing that i can't fix with a couple more coats! ;) We should get together sometime and spray it over beers.

You don't need a rotisserie to spray the undercarriage. Just jack the car up, slap on some safety goggles and a respirator, and get to sprayin.
