I've got an 07 WRX. What I'm trying to do is add a power outlet to the passenger footwell, and I want it to be on all the time; even when the ignition is off. Where should I splice, and please don't say THE BATTERY, I refuse to do that. That solution is far too ghetto. Thank you.
That probably depends on how much current you are going to draw. Different "always on" locations probably have different sized fuses.
That's quite a bit. Are there any open spaces on the fuse block that can be used to add a new circuit?
Yeah, I just don't want another little wire snaking thru the firewall. I'm trying to do a clean install.
I've got my amp power supply on the drive side through a hole around where the throttle is and the LC-1 harness in the same hole the main harness goes in, both are pretty stealth.
Get some of this http://www.dansdata.com/images/rcables/tubing440.jpg and some zip ties and people wont even know its not stock.... unless you install like a 5 year old...j/k Otherwise if you really don't want to go to the battery, follow the ignition harness down and you should see some 8 or 16 guage wire, that should be the main power for the ignition harness and thats what i always use for car starters and such...give me a minute and i will try and find exact wire colors
Wire from the bat, you baby . I've got about 10 bajillion things going through the firewall down by the clutch pedal. Just zip tie everything well and it'll look fine.
I'll take a peek at wiring diagrams tonight. but off the top of my head.... the only things I can think of in the dash that get 12v constant is the brake light system, power locks, hazards and memory wires (ECU, TCU, radio, etc.). 15a isn't much by itself, but I doubt any of these circuits could handle 15a + their current load. you could splice it into one of those circuits, and make a point not to use the power jack AND it's host accessory. but IMHO that's much more ghetto than just running a wire.
Tap that ass, baby. lawl And yes, I did just go off the battery. Fuse after 3" of wire. Brought it in thru the grommet that's behind/in front of the glove box, since I needed to clean the cabin filter anyway. I now have a 12v power in my glove box. Unnoticeable under the hood, will clean it up under the dash later. Thanks tho, Ksal. And Chet - I don't have a throttle cable. 32bit = drive by wire.
