I am looking at buying a 2001 Impreza RS with 88K miles on it. I am planning to get it checked out at either tiresplus ($19.99) or Midas($75). The car is in south minneapolis around W25th street and I need it done this wednesday evening. I already looked at the car and drove it around a bit, but it was 7F outside so couldnt really check it properly. Is there a better way of doing this? The car is with the owners father and he only has time this wednesday evening. Thanks
IMO I wouldn't take it to either of those places. I'd go to the dealership or have someone who really knows subaru's look at it first. Just my $.02
Ryan said it best. If you wanna make sure your not getting hosed take it to a Subaru Dealership and have it go through a multi point inspection.
I would love it if I can get someone in here to take a look at it. I will be more than glad to pay for that! Taking it to a subaru dealership might be a little difficult as that might not be possible given the time the owner's father can spare. (The owner is in Duluth, he has left the car with his father here)
Just called up a subaru dealership, they're asking $120 for a visual inspection and $50 additional if the take the wheels off to inspect the brakes. I believe this is WAY to steep. My biggest concern is the HG leak, and I think most shops should be able to tell if its weeping coolant/oil once its up on the lift. If its an internal leak it would show up in the oil or coolant. Thanks everyone!! Love this forum! @Bielke55 PM'ed you.
Thanks a ton Brian!! Tires Plus dint catch the valve cover gasket leak Hopefully I will bring her home saturday. Time to line up the parts.
Brian is the man, and him owning an RS makes it a lot easier to ask him for parts I need, having limited subi knowledge at this point, lol.
Your welcome! Have fun with that car if you get it! Give us a call for parts when your ready for v/c stuff
I passed it up. Went with the money and did not pick it up. He had the alarm system disabled and the remote keys were missing. He dint mention that in any of our previous conversations. I know it might not be a big deal, but I just got spooked a bit and did not feel like buying it.
That's a little ominous, but were they there when you guys went and looked at the car the first time? Really, all you would have to do is go have a new alarm put in otherwise.....
