Slowly but surely! Put more of the interior and motor back together. Did some more painting. I just need to protect the bumper beam a little then I can put the front end back together and start on the fiberglass grille. I'm hoping to fire it up next weekend or the weekend after (depending on how much time I can find).

Yeah it really does! I plan to replace the fenders once I sell some more stuff. I'm not sure about the door dings. Maybe I'll go at them if/when I shave the door moldings. Seems like a lot of work for what it is though.
Hey, if you can get some Aston Martin door handles and get them bolted on, that would be super-hotness. But then you'd have to help me do that to my 08!
Nope, waiting on some parts to ship. I'm also missing (well, not finding) a few critical parts. It's been really hard finding even a couple hours to work on it but I'm hoping to find some time this weekend between the airport autox, maintenance on the leggy, and 2 details.

It's been slow, but silly things like work, family, and other responsibilities have been getting in the way lol I'm planning to drive it down to Nate's place in the next week or 2 and just get something quiet on there for now. I don't want to get too elaborate like I originally planned since there's the off chance I might go FI. So I'm imagining for now: svx manifold -> svx y-pipe flanges -> custom merge pipe with 02 bungs -> custom 2.5" (dual?) resonator pipe -> gutted STi axleback.
Pretty much all the hoses and wiring related to fuel and ignition lol You know... minor stuff. The downfall of having too many cooks in the kitchen... not everyone bags and tags. I found your knife, your 3/8 snap-on 12mm, and a snap-on impact socket that's definitely not mine. Found my 3/8 impact deep socket 12mm too! Still missing a few 12s, a 14, and at least one 10.
Awesome! I plan to finish the car up this weekend. I finally have more than a couple hours free! I found all the wiring and started plugging things back up. I'll need to get creative with the power steering and cooling system lines, but I think it's all doable with stock parts, maybe some couplers, and a ton of cutting, bending, and swearing.
pirtek can do custom p/s lines if you need them - very reasonably priced services too and quick (on the spot).
i was able to make all my connections on the wagacy by using the stock SVX high pressure hose from the steering rack to the back of the motor (hardline connection location), and just cutting the fittings off of my low pressure line and hose clamping that to the metal tubing that runs under the passenger side of the motor (low pressure hardline). you do have to cut off a little bracket from the high pressure svx line to get it out of the way. currently i am just bypassing the PS pump, but in theory, my set up should work fine when i put a pump back in there. there wasnt much to it really, but feel free to pick my brain if you want.
Thanks for the ideas. What I was seeing is I can probably use the RS hp line to the svx pump then the svx lp line to the RS lp hard line. Shouldn't require any cutting if the fittings match up. I won't know until I unbolt everything and see how it all maybe lines up. I do see some more cutting and a some 90 degree couplers necessary to make the rad hoses line up. The upper hose is a really tight fit. The AC condensor is going to be a challenge as well. It all looks doable with minimal effort tho. Some people have asked how much I've spent on this project. It's mostly been time and energy that's been exhausted on this project. So far I've spent $3100 total on this project. This includes the price of the RS, svx donor motor, svx donor ecu, svx donor harness, harness merging services, new ACT clutch/flywheel, new oem suspension, new winter tires, used summer wheels, new tools, supplies, gaskets, plugs, tie rods, etc... This also includes selling the coilovers, longblock, and misc stock parts. I'm hoping to have the car running and the total under $3k after selling a couple more parts.
i think it might work, depends on how much slack there is in the RS lines, i dont think mine would have even reached the PS pump in my car, that's why i ended up using the SVX HP hard and soft lines.
Well in the last couple of weeks I managed to get very little work done but chipped away 1 hour at a time. I put the interior back together (as far as I plan to use it anyhow) Tracked down 2 elusive ground issues Wired in some new speakers "fixed" some body issues Put the intake manifold/intake back and saw that I had an extra hose not connecting to anything Pulled everything back apart Stared at it for a while Tonight thunderdan and I were able to put the intake manifold back together correctly and found why it was probably misfiring this last time (nipple broke off a solenoid and I ran a couple of hoses backwards). So, I just need a new purge control solenoid and a proper heater core hose and it should be set. Hoping to find the part soon if superglue doesn't fix it lol
take a solder and plastic weld it together (I assume it is plastic) I did something similar on my bugeye when changing the alternator and threw check engine lights... so after being told a little solenoid was gonna be $130 I soldered/plastic welded it... that was almost 3 yrs ago and still no issues.. the guy I sold it to called me about a month ago as the dealership was telling him he should replace it.. I said, "has it thrown a code?" (nope) reply "then why pay $130 for something that is obviously working?!?!?!?"
that can happen. I can't wait to see vids of it complete. An hour here or there can add up- especially when you finally get to that final push for completion.
That was my next step if superglue doesn't work the second time around. It will probably be my only option since I can't seem to find the solenoid anywhere :dunno: Hopefully we'll be talking soon about exhaust... if I don't get pulled over and have the car impounded en route... this thing is LOUD. Hopefully this weekend or next! I'll give up if I'm defeated by a nipple... wait... what? You're right about the hour here and there adding up. All the little things like wiring, lining parts up so they sit flush, tracking down and fixing leaks, etc... would take forever to do if you tried to get it all done in one shot.
Of my broken nipple? lol I suppose the hood is a hilarious shade of blotchy flat black now and the engine bay looks ridiculously crammed. I'll post some later tonight.
I'd suggest a 2-part epoxy in whatever flash-time you desire over superglue. Prep the surface (something rough) and have at it. I've made bead-rolls for charge piping outta that crap. JB weld is better, but is slow.
gorilla glue seems to have worked... we'll see. I have some 2-part plastic epoxy but will probably try my plastic weld first... maybe this Monday afternoon after golf. Otherwise a new solenoid is $55 and half a week shipping. It would be nice to have it ready for the rallyx at the end of the month but no big hurry. Anyway, this is how it sits right now... 98.3% done... just for you, Rick: whole exterior needs some wetsanding then a final coat and matte clear... or just a bunch of dirt and dust. yay, boom booms. Funny thing about having basically no interior... stereo sounds better outside of the car than inside lol custom ps lines and ac lines once it's up and running.
I will tell you glue won't work... I used 2 part epoxy.... Let it set for about 24 hrs then coated it again all over to seal it.. It broke putting it in hahaha Plastic weld... Use some plastic from an ice cream container or something
I didn't read far enough back to see that it is for the cooling system, lol. It's been done with a threaded fitting reinforced by epoxy. Plastic welding can be tough on those parts wince they are often a FRP. Good luck, you'll need it with that.
It's actually an emission solenoid (goes between the intake manifold and fuel evap canister). It looks/feels like polypropylene. Superglue seems to have worked, but I don't know if it will hold up to the heat (mounted to the underside of the intake manifold). I'll give the plastic weld a shot this weekend. If that doesn't work, I'll get a new one.
Well today was an eventful day. I drove around town tracking down 5/8ish heater hose. Finally found some at the NAPA off 280 and got some hose clamps too. Hooked up the heater core hose, clamp down the radiator hoses. Filled the car with coolant and oil. I then hooked up the intake and throttle cables: Decided to flip the bottom half of the stock intake box over since it won't fit any other way... Yes that's duct tape holding on the paper filter... Duct tape and zipties... don't know what I'd do without 'em! Looks like I'll be shopping for a cone filter soon: Went to start the car and nothing. Started wouldn't click over. Troubleshot for a while and checked grounds, fuses, factory security (with the starter interrupt). Still nothing Swapped in a different starter thinking this one might be fried. Still nothing. Jumped starter #2 with a screwdriver across the solenoid terminals and it just spun. Pulled it off and noticed the teeth don't quite line up. In the process realized that my dumbass forgot to hook up the spade ground to the starter! :laugh: Doh! Swapped the original starter back on and went to fire it up. Battery was flat but at least the started turned over this time. Swapped the battery with the one in our LGT and still not firing up. I figured it was probably not getting any fuel so I went and got a few gallons. Filled the RSVX up but still nothing. Swapped 2 of the fuel lines off the fuel filter and success! Until I hear my GF yell "STOP!!!" I quickly cut the engine half expecting to see a ball of fire or a puddle of metal and oil. Turns out the oil part was right. I forgot to empty out the PS fluid reservoir so PS shot all over the side of the garage... which coincidentally, the GF had just pressure washed this morning... looks like I'll be working this one off for a while :laugh: Aren't these lines supposed to connect themselves? So I clean up my mess, plug up the PS line and fire it up again... coming together nicely Sheen, you're pulling some low rpm's- gas mileage will be phenomenal i'm sure the wife was happy. been there done that...my new rules to live by: 1. don't mess with wife's plans when picking up a new car... +1000000 if it's a 'project' 2. keep her crap clean 3. if 1 fails, pull out credit card, you're going to need it.
When projects are concerned, I've found that women tend to be happy if they can still park in the garage. If you take over their spot for more than a day or two, they get pissed.
