    aka Moleness' STi

After working on it, a little more boost and other little boogers
    This is the results.

Good to see air flow like that. Cam upgrade I assume? Most cars seem to roll off back down to 300 ft-lbs regardless of turbo if you don't touch them. That's a solid setup right there, very nicely done.

Lol...you know, it's pretty much a stock sti with drop in pistons. Stock heads (cams and valvetrain are stock), headers, intake manifold. Just a FMIC, uppipe and ewg with a BW S259 and some injector and fuel pump. Very simple bolt ons and lots of power.

Nighthawk, eh? I like it, haha.

The car feels beastly, I love it. Big huge thanks goes to all people involved. (you forgot to thank yourself Nuke ;))

Odd. The new cars flow nice. I've never really seen any older cars that could keep 400 ft-lbs, even when the boost stayed, without doing cams as well. Props to the newer cars I guess. It's nice that they support this kind of thing nearly bone stock. I think we're going to start seeing a pile of 500hp STIs around pretty soon. The S259 isn't a putz either.

Yea...this turbo loves boost. And I mean, LOVES. the pressure just kept climbing, it's insane.

    And yes Matt, nighthawk ;)
I'm not gonna thank myself until it's done :O

Of course. I may even let you ride in the driver's seat. ;) I would be curious to see how you would compare it to your last setup.

I think the turbo loves boost more than me, lol. Can't wait to see what it does at the track(s) this year. :)

Power is limited by the fuel type used. You could get 550hp at 5k on 87 octane if you were willing to run low enough compression and enough boost to make it happen. The numbers we commonly see are a byproduct of the normally used static compression of these motors (8.2:1 or 8.5:1), the fuel type used (91-93oct.), and supportable boost of that package along with the boost capability of the turbo used. In a very rough sense, 300 ft-lbs at the wheels is what these cars can do on pump gas. The STI offers a touch more with the slightly lower static compression. We also commonly stop at around 21psi too as that's around what the fuel and compression setup supports safely. The big HP cars require lower static compression, require higher octane fuels and/or additives, and require turbos capable of higher boost levels. Whatever you want is doable as long as you build for it. Want a 1000HP EJ25 motor that will do it by 7000 rpm? Ok. Toss in 6.5:1 pistons, run E85, and oh...about 100psi of boost. That'll put enough air/fuel in to produce 1000HP, if the motor can survive it. :p Oh, and the motor needs to flow 1400cfm of air happily too (heads, cams, intake manifold, exhaust manifold, intake piping, exhaust piping).

Power CAN be limited by fuel. Also by the size of the turbo, intercooler, headers, intake and other stuff.

Anyway, my post was made in jest. Knowing the people involved in this build im sure the current iteration will be tweaked, improved, and probably replaced ;)

There will always be something faster, better geared, more powerful, etc... but as long as you set goals and meet them, you're making progress.

Congrats on an impressive looking power curve. Must feel great seeing 500 after all the time, effort, and money put into this project. Cant wait to hear what it beats!

^^yes, very nice power curve...it just keeps building..and building..and building...!

anyway, looks like a ton of fun. What kind of events do you plan on running it in?

A nice build is all about the details, and your contribution was most excellent, looks stock. Enjoy your soup. :)

Setup should stay basically the same, aside from little tweaks, for at least a few months...

Oh boy...am I supposed to have goals besides going fast?! lol

Lots of time and effort involved, yes, but not toooo much monies. (thanks to my homies ;))

Bring the 996 to rockfalls and I will see what it can beat. I will even dial the boost back a bit for you. :p

Drag strip for sure, just to see what it can do. (assuming I can properly grab each gear, and the track surface) Also, I will be getting some additional training and parts in hope of doing some high speed lapping at brainerd later this year...

I will be there...and the car should be also. ;) You???

I think I left permanent indentations in the seat, it was pulling so hard all the way to redline. That turbo isn't even breathing hard... yet ;)

Big thanks to Nuke for the endless tuning and logging!
