yep.. doing between 63-70mph on a 55 zone.. 12:30am... pulled over, wound down window, turned on interior light, got license ready... turned off car and radio, was POLITE to the State Trooper... yep... funny thing is I was even HONEST as to why he pulled me over...

"Um... yeha I was kinda cruising along ;) " said with a smirk and a little laugh... asked where I was coming form (dinner) and where I was going... 'um sir if you look ovr that ittle hillthere at those lights... yep thats the house we are stopping at!!" dropping my wife's nieces home..

he was cool.. laughed at my insurance card that had been decorated in marker by one of my 3 kids... told me to slow it down and have a great night...

    This guy rocked...

Now I wonder what would have happened if I had of been a cocky smart arse son of a female dog like half the upstarts around here... maybe this would have been a ^%^$^&%^%& the police thread x1312874321981

oh yeah... 2 mins later on the way back home same road... he had someone else pulled over...

    Cool.
The thing you have to remember, is that they are just doing their job, and if they pulled you over, you probably are breaking the law, and you have no-one to be angry at except you'reself (lawmakers maybee).

In most circumstances, always better to work with the officer to make their job easier.

yea, I got clocked going 69 in a 55 at about 1am in carlton while on my way home from Ryan's place a couple months ago. told the guy I'd been on the road for about 7 hours that day, and just wanted to get home. he gave me a ticket for not having an insurance card in the car (whoops.....got home, copied the card, mailed it in.....no problem) and told me to clean off my license plate. again, just a few minutes, and I was back on my way.

I've been pulled over dozens of times, only given a moving violation twice. it's amazing what happens when you're nice.

Being respectful and honest is key. It wont always get you off a ticket, but will minimize the fine for sure. Can't wait till I hit the streets!

For everybody's info, there's always a cop car rolling on Basslake road coming from brookdale center to plymouth(169&Basslake rd) around 11pm-1AM. I see him every othernight going west on Basslake. I know b/c I got pulled over by him once(turning 50mph on that curve on Basslake rd)

Here's what he said to me..
"I know these are fast cars but you gotta watch the speed limit"

    "ok..." I replied.

Being in law enforcement for the past... oh decade, I can attest that a good attitude will get you much further then being argumentative. With the amount of lawsuits that are tossed around these days, most officers will not make a stop unless they have you, dead to rights.

Just be honest, have everything ready, be polite, and don't lie.

Thank god I will never do that job again!!!

This may be true else where, but in Blaine it has been my experience to be the case. I have had my fair share of being stopped in Blaine for unjust reasons and being given BS tickets. Tickets (2) for speeding that when I got to court the prosecution immediately asked me to plea bargain for a $10 seat belt ticket. Now why would they immediately try to plea bargain? Well it turns out when you ask for a radar log during the trial and they can't produce one your case gets dismissed.
I had another one where at bar close being a sober cab on Christmas eve bringing 3 buddy's home I was pulled over for supposedly failing to signal a turn in a residential neighborhood. Great thing was I stopped before my turn signal canceled. He tells me "I stopped you because you didn't signal your turn", before I can say any thing he give me the 3rd degree on how much I have had to drink (rightfully so, I have 3 piss drunk people in the jeep and it reeks, I can smell it) then he gets frustrated when I tell him I am a sober cab, WTF. He comes back and gives me a ticket for failure to signal, and I ask him how it is I failed to signal a turn when my signal is still blinking. His words, try to prove it and he walked back to his car. I didn't know it at the time but one of the guys I had in the back seat pulled out his camera and recorded the whole stop from the back seat, even getting the blinking turn signal indicator as you can here the cop tell me why he pulled me over for not signaling. That case was dropped as soon as the video was watched by the judge.

I think a lot of it too depends on the particular department the officer works for. For all the BS I have been given by Blaine PD, Coon Rapids has always been nice, especially the veterans. For ever crap experience I have had with Blaine, Coon Rapids has had a good one. That does seem to be changing in the last 5-6 years as CR brings on a younger force. The younger guys seem to be on a power trip, they are rude through the whole stop regardless.

lucky you. I got pulled over yesterday and got a 125 dollar ticket for 33% tint! He was a ****. I mean if he gave me a fix it ticket I would take it off anyway. I have never been pulled over for it. And whats sad is that i bought the car with it. Will have to go appeal it.

still dont know why you call him an ass... is your tint illegal.. YES.. then suck it up, reach between your thighs and see if you have a set... you play you pay...

this is not a whinge thread.. this is exactly the opposite to illustrate that people who piss and moan are probably usually smartasses to the cops... I have been pulled over twice in 6 yrs & NO tickets each time doing almost 10-15 over.. .. I speed everywhere.... I have 35% tint... never been harassed for it... sorry Taras but somehow I htink the wya you were probably driving caught his attention... you are kinda radical when you drive... ha ha

I am rather sympathetic of police officers. They do their job for a pittance (I mean when you count the hours most of those guys are making $14 an hour) and yet at any moment some assclown can pull a gun and pop him for something as silly pulling him over for speeding. I can tolerate plenty of arrogant LEOs knowing this. It certainly isn't a job I could do for that kind of money.

And yeah most of the people who act out against them know they've done wrong and are just mad at themselves but taking it out on the guy who caught them. There have been times I pulled over completely before the lights even came on because I knew it was me they were after. The last time I did that the guy had a good laugh with me about it, the first time in 15 years he didn't even have to turn on his lights or siren on for a stop. I was doing 70 in a 55 and it was late so he was doing a sobriety check and since I was underage and hadn't had a drop he let me go with only a verbal warning. And most of my encounters have been like this. I think the history of tickets and such is a snowball effect and since my last moving violation was over 10 years ago when I was in high school has helped prevent my getting more tickets.

As for the window tint ticket I can feel you there. The 25% on my turbo RS got me many a ticket in Maple Grove, often from the same officer. The guy later took pity on me and stopped writing tickets as he knew I worked there and never broke the law otherwise. He explained his reasons for upholding that law was because it was easier for him to see what is going on in the car when he's approaching it. I can certainly see that being helpful to him. Of course the city of Maple Grove is also $770 richer because of those tickets he gave me

I have gotten out of more tickets then I have gotten into. I have always been nice and respectful to them. They were not the ones with there foot on my gas pedal, I was. They are just doing there job.

I got stopped for 80 in a 55 and he said because I was nice and had a clean record he would help me out by only giving me a 64 in a 55 which does not affect your insurance. I have a buddy who is a cop in bloomington, he has been checking my record and still no sign of the ticket. I paid it at the end of january. So I am happy he dropped it down to a 64 from a 80.

well first of all both of you, Nate and Rich, live in smaller towns. Cops in smaller towns are usualy nicer becuse they live pretty much near you. Second, I bought the car with that tint. And I was driving normaly. I never speed or do anything stupid in the city. And I got pulled over in Edina, so go figure. Cops here are arse shiats cause they think that all younger people that drive cars in that area are little rich brats.

Well, that time of night he was pulling you for DWI which i think is fine and I completely support.

I have no problem getting 'randomly' stopped between 11 and 2 am as long as it keeps the boozers off the roads and as long as the cop/trooper is mellow. I am always polite to the law they do have a difficult job to do but....

I cannot stand the people that feel that they 'HAVE' to write you a BS ticket just because they have you pulled over no matter how polite you are or how completely up to date you are with your paperwork. It pisses people off and adds fuel to the "tickets are revenue" argument.

I got a $200 ticket last summer in California because my Brother gets pulled over and I kept going to find a a safe and legal place to pull over and wait. Bike was off, helmet was off, I was off the bike in an actual parking space, and I got the full court press from the spotter plane and 2 CHP cruisers who thought I was 'running' from the law.... Actual ticket was for "failure to come to a complete stop". Thats right - A california stop ticket in California.

Best part of the story as far as my brother was concerned - He got off his speeding ticket. The CHP was making thier money one way or another... It still pisses me off

I could and have written essays on tickets.
Being nice to a cop is good for three reasons:
Might get you out of a ticket
Might get you a "break" on speed
Much less likely the cop will remember you, makes the trial easier

Also, if you're an ass to the cop they pressure the prosecutor to be harder on you.

BTW, easiest ways to piss off a cop are tint and no front plate.
And suburban cops tend to having nothing to do and will pull you for anything
75% of stops after 10PM and before 5am are potential DWIs. Don't be drunk and you tend to be more likely to be able to talk your way out. tickets mean paperwork and cops would rather pull over drunks.

I can attest to all of these comments about being positive, polite, and cordial with the officer... I drive A LOT, speed on occassion, but nothing usually more than 10-15 over. I have only received 1 ticket the past 6 years and I knew I was guilty and deserved it, however, I have been pulled over probably at least additional 5 times over that same span and not received any moving violations.

The key is being upfront and honest with the officer, not trying to give them a load of BS... You think they haven't heard about every whiney scenario out there over the years of pulling people over?? Give them respect and show some integrity and for the most part they will have no problems with ya.

I was pulled over on Super Bowl Sunday inbetween Savage and Burnsville on CR 13 where the road goes from 55 down to 45, then back to 55. I was going 59 in a 45, hadn't updated my driver's license with my new address, didn't have my proof of insurance on me since my car was stolen, have illegal clear turn signal lights, and obstructed license plates. Guilty, but I immediately had all info ready and was truthful with the officer about the incident and you know what I still had to pay for not updating my license within 30 days of a move ($100), and had to go show proof of insurance. However, I didn't receive a moving violation, just a warning, and also no issues with the signals, license plates, tint, and whatever else he wanted to point out, which would have totalled up to 100's of dollars in fines!

I'll gladly trade $100 for what would have been much worse over the next three years of increased insurance policy till the ticket would be removed, not to mention a bunch more in violation fees!!!

Over my 10 years of driving I have probably close to 8 to 10 total moving violations, (all but 1 in my first few years of driving) but probably another 10 or so more stops where I received just verbal or writen warnings. Am I bitter over the officers issuing the citations? No, not really, just upset with my ******* for putting myself in those situations.

Don't hate the players, hate the game! Or more importantly, know how to play the game!

BTW, when being honest with the officver try not to be too honest.
If you admit to even 56 in a 55 and the officer doesn't let you off, the odds of the prosecutor giving you a deal because he thinks he might lose drops dramatically (you still might get one if he likes you or is in a good mood, but you lose that other chance) and winning a trial just got much harder.

FIRSTLY - Sorry to sya mate but that has sweet F'all to do with whether you have illegal tint or not!!! the law is the law...

Ooooh sorry officer she said she was at least 17 and when I tripped and wham... yeah you get the point...

SECONDLY - there is plenty of video evidence posted on this site that shows otherwise... remember the night we put the struts in last time... you were driving in a 30 zone riding a guys arse swerving side to side hard testing the bounce... I mentioned you may not want to do that you will piss of a redneck!!!

I have driven in the cities lots, I even usually overtake the cops on the highway... NEVER pulled over for that...and I have 35% all around on my car...

everytime ive been really honest with a cop, they usually give me a warning.

i wouldnt want someone making my job harder either so i dont make smart ass remarks. i admit to speeding and usually just play it cool. if they dont get stressed that are less likely to give you a ticket unless you were doing way over the posted limit. people who bitch about getting tickets are retarded i think. we all know the rules and break them on our own. its not their fault. if they didnt give out tickets i assume there would be a lot more accidents caused by unsafe drivers.

So cops wear the number of tickets they give out like a badge of honor and will go out of thier way to ticket for anything.
Other cops only give out tickets in what they see as unsafe conditions.
It is generally the first type people bitch about (though people who got the ticket will complain about the second).
The first type can also be a massive revenue source.
(theres also cops in the middle ground)

/Also note that prosecutors know who these cops are. If the second type gives you a ticket, the chances of a deal goes down.

i never said that. im saying that the idea that someone might get a ticket helps keep public drivers in check. if you think a cop might pull you over for speeding your probably not going to speed as much.

    That should ahve said "some."
I will agree that in urban areas, enforcement keeps speeding under control.
However, there is a lot of tickets given for marginal crap while mom in her X5 can cut over 5 lanes of traffic without a turn signal on the phone, drinking a latte, screaming at her kids while wondering why hubby's cheating on her.

yeah i totally agree with you there. but think of how much more **** would happen if there wasnt any type of control on the roads. i know what you mean. sometimes i wish i had the right to revoke someones license. but in the most part its effective. a lot of the time though marginal tickets are still well deserved. the cops cant be everywere at once but they still need to do their job
