So I purchased a 2006 wrx as a dd. I knew I wanted a wrx but I don't have much knowledge about subarus. I'm a Toyota guy. So the guy I bought the car from told me it has a stage 1 map on there. Well I want to get into learning more about the car and want to do the e85 conversion this summer. I forgot which tuning shop flashed the ecu but I'm just concerned that if I end up getting a bfm cable will I be able to flash the ecu? Or will I have to get the tactrix cable instead? I know I'll probably get knocked for being cheap, but hey I am.

I have a BFM cable and it works fine. I wouldn't advise digging into your ECU without talking to the experts, you can really mess the car up bad. E85 conversion is more than just an ECU flash, you will need a larger fuel pump, larger injectors and to make it worth your while, a down pipe.

I know about the corn no worries with that. I hav a vf39 I want to push it to 20 psi so I'm think 1000cc injectors and plan to run a walbro 255 pump. Already have a Perrin 3" dp all the way back to stock sti muffler. But once I can find a buyer for my invidia el header I'll go 3" muffler and stock manifolds. I'll give up a little performance for the rumble. With the ecu I just want to log it and see how she behaves. Don't plan on making any changes until I do the e85 conversion with gutted tgv's and I want to get rid of the air pump to free some space. So I gots some codes to delete lol!!

So youre saying I will be fine with the bfm cable even though the car may have been flashed by other means?

From what I have been told, you should not run it in the winter. Planning on changing the flashes with the season?

Go with a different fuel pump. Heard of issues installing the walbro due to its size. Go with a dw, better fit.

I've thought about the DW pumps. I guess I haven't looked into much about the pumps, just injectors really. Yeah I plan on changing maps for the seasons. I just want to keep everything relatively stock under the hood and focus on brakes and suspension.

So can anyone confirm that I would be fine with ecuflash with the BFM cable even though the car may have been flashed a different route?

both pumps are the same size...

e85 can be ran in the winter, just need to be able to change a few some stuff, and also be able to monitor

there are a lot of folks running it all year round, while some switch out to pump during winter.

Oh, bfm cables are fine on the 32bit ecu. I believe it was the 02-03 that had issues.
Just need to follow the proper instructions to get it working correctly.

Walbros are fine, but I prefer the dw300 over the walbro

So I should be fine as long as the ecu isn't locked from ecutek or wasn't unmarried from cobb AP?

I will be installing a aem uego. I figured I would be able to run e85 all year long. besides where I live I can only go to one gas station. Its the only one with E85. So with e85 all year round I don't really have to worry about timing too much just the air fuel ratios?

if you're squeezing EVERY bit of power out of it, then you'd probably be changing the timing advance around on different batches. Depends on how the tune is set up.
