So I've been toying with the idea of getting the Grimmspeed uppipe with the external wastegate. Has anyone istalled this on their car? Any opinions/ info would be greatly appreciated. Also if you have did you need a tune after? I'm currently running cobb stage 2 and TBE. Thanks in advance.

You'll need a tune for the external wastegate for sure.

    BTW, EWG FTW!

You won't make much in gains unless you're running big HP. Although it'll sound great!

I do not agree with the EWG sounding great statement, If you like the sounds of extreme exhaust leaks, then by all means, this is your setup!

Why go external until you "need" to? Save the $$ for a mod which will have some returns.

Open-dump external wastegates sound like someone farting through a straw at 150dB.

Yeah I think the EWG is a great option for excellent boost control, but not really needed with stock type turbo set-up and a good boost control system such as the Grimmspeed BCS and even the GM BCS. And as stated above, they are loud. Big turbo, high boost levels, go EWG!!! If not, save your money and just get a good custom tune and keep your internal wastegate

The thing is I want an uppipe and figure why buy another down the road? I just don't want to end up buying another uppipe if it's not needed. What about just an uppipe? Would any suggest me getting a tune if I'm just getting an uppipe sans the EWG? Throttle response is definatly something I'm striving for since driving my old AE86 with ITBs.

Might be a good up pipe to use since you can buy the blockoff plate for it now and go the ewg route later if you find it necessary. Any custom tune should give you a bit better feel overall over your current off the shelf tune.

Or buy a stock catless up pipe from a sti or 06-07 wrx. Should be able to find one in the 20-40$ range then save the money until you swap turbos.

I heard of an autoxer (second hand of course) that went EWG with a TD04 for this reason. Some obscure Autox rule I'm sure factored in that decision.
