I'm in the middle of putting Uncle Scotty's sauce in my 02 WRX 5 speed. I printed out a "how to" off of Nasioc, but I've got a question.

What is the transmission capacity? The print out says 3.8 quarts, but it also says that I needed a T70 bit, but I didn't. The drain plug was a 21 or 22mm bolt. I put in 3 qts, and dumped the old fluid into the empty bottles, and it looks like the tranny only had 3 quarts in it...

So, should I add a 1/2 quart, wait a half hour and check it, or start it and check it now?

    Just need some confirmation.

    Thanks!!!!!

if you are putting in a scottys mix put in all 4 quarts, you wont be able to get all of the redline stuff out anyways ;)

and as far as checking it, take it around the block. its not like an auto where just starting it and letting it idle will give you an accurate reading..

How long did you let it drain? You probably just didn't get it all out. So yeah, drive it around the block and recheck the level. Add a small amount more, if needed, and repeat.

Thanks guys - a beer for each of you.

I let it drain for about a half hour. It was barely dripping when I put the plug back in and started to put in the juice. Is that long enough? I didn't have all day to let it sit there. Should I get more fluid and re-do it when I've got the time to let it drain for 12 hours or something?

Was it warm and level when it was draining? Either way, I don't think you need to drain it and redo it or let it drain that long. I usually see closer to 3.5 quarts come out, but 3 could have been most of it depending on how much burned off. Still a good idea to row through the gears a few times and re-check the level tho.

I started it and drove it down the block and back before I started, so it was a little warm but not hot. I figured it would flow better a little warm but was anxious to start and didn't want to get it too hot.

Again, thanks guys. I just added a bit and will run down the road for a bit.

    Thanks!

I got the Redline from Justin, but I think you can get O'rilley's to order it. The O'rilley's in Chan has the Castrol and the Penzoil in stock. I think I willbe getting all of my car stuff from those guys at that branch - the customer service has been absolutely AWESOME. The manager even filled out a rebate form for me once so that all I had to do was throw it in the mail!!!

We can do it here if you want- just let me know when.

Well, I don't know what was in there before, it looked like straight Redline. The gears absolutely shift smoother! It's like KY for my gearbox. And now I have gear lube all over the laptop keys. Stinky.

Nice, but i hope you didn't put all four in. The capacity is 3.8ish. As sheen stated. 3.5, drive it around the block, check again and add as needed.

and yes, it was shift mucho smoother now!

Nope, all 4 didn't go in, I put in just a little over 3.5. I drove it around the block a couple times after adding a little bit each time. I pulled it into the garage, left it running for about a minute and checked the level. It's just to the top of the full dot.

Thanks for all your help guys!
